What happened to the Jewish community round Grangetown/Ashbrooke?
Used to be loads of them when I was a lad and now they seem to have just disappeared

coincided with the loss of industries. four be two's dont stick around in times of austerity

Asked my israeli m8 for you

Well first of all, recommend him to read about it a bit in wikipedia. Whats important though is that A. During this time we don't eat anything that is made from bread in any form (that includes a whole lot of things), so watch out
its one of the bigger holidays, mostly about family and together
but historically, we're celebrating the freedom, we were slaves in Egypt, then Moses came and released us (god released us of course)
thats basically, what we're mentioning
that bread part is important..
No bread, beer (most of them)
we read from the Passover haggadah
Its a book that tells the story of our days from slaves to free men
so, during the 'seder (wiki it), we read from it
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passover_Seder

Sadders is pretty knowledgable about the decline of the Jewish community in Sunderland, but they aren't all gone. Ralph Blakey could make a claim to be the longest serving Sunderland fan still living (poor sod!) and he's still I. Sunderland.

Don't forget to read the liberation story in 'Larn Yersel Geordie':

"... Noo Moses gets up there with his deppity's stick and bangs it on the groond, and there was a waal o watter on one side and a waal o watter on tother ..."

Shalom!

Apparently, I'm a quarter 4 x 2.

A long story but came to light a few years back.

I have a foreskin and love the swine but (and this is genuine) I have short hair but if I grows, the bits behing my ears tend to curl.....a jewish trait non? ! I'm also canny tight and can't bear to hoy anything out that may be of use in the next millenium!

Have a canny snek and all.....

Sadders is your man, he's one of the faith!

Expect a bit of praying, perhaps some singing/chanting in the Hebrew, and some damn good bait. Don't think there's much more to it than any other traditional family knees up like Christmas dinner or Thanksgiving over here.

Yep, I am the local red sea pedestrian.

The main thing you will notice about passover (depending on how religious the family is) is how restrictive the diet is. Nothing leavened for 7 days. No bread and anything with flour except matzo which is like a water biscuit.

On the first night in israel and first two nights elsewhere you have the 'seder' which is where the extended family sit round a table and tell the story of the exodus of the jews from slavery in egypt.

For me it is a lovely family orientated time with lots of memories from previous passovers. For the un initiated it would be very very odd.

sounds like our midfield on here , all this talk of "pass over"
