The fact that catholics tend to have more children than protestants (condoms are the devils work and cause AIDS you know) means that at some point the demographic will dictate a stronger argument for a unified Ireland. However, in my view, as long as there is one, single, living, breathing loyalist left in Ulster it would be a crime for the British government to withdraw. The ultimate shame is I have served with and worked with men on both sides of the divide and found them to be wonderfully warm characters (a lot like us from the North east in many ways) but they cannot live together, too much water under the bridge, too much said and too much done.

Why? It's wrong to attempt to control a country which don't want you to govern them.
If they wish to be part of an independent unified Ireland good luck to them.
The unionists have been in the minority for a long time and couldve fucked off back to Eire at anytime
And its right to ignore the views of a minority why? Do they have no right like? The unionists have been in the minority for a long time and couldve fucked off back to Eire at anytime, fact is Eire didnt want anything to do with the murderous bastards. So now, through the fucked up teachings of the catholic church, far more insidious than anything Islam has ever dreamt up by the way, their population has increased to an extent that means loyalists will be in a minority. So we ignore that do we? And, by the way, how much English blood has been spilt on that ground protecting the loyalists? To surrender would be an insult to those lives lost.
By your reckoning it would now be fine to have Leicester as a sattelite of Pakistan and native English people having to accept it as the norm.

Wars end and peace can eventually be made.
Fuckers like you are as bad as the supporters of the real ira, continuity ira or whatever ira they're called this week.
Give it up man. Folk want peace and that means democracy.

Why shouldn't they have a referendum on it. Let the people decide what they want.
Would also save the taxpayer £4 billion a year in subsidies.
The Free State is hard up mind, best of luck Jerry.![]()
I don't really know which way a referendum would go tbh.
Aside from hardline unionists and republicans, it's not really that big a deal for most Irish people any more. Moves to absorb NI back into the State would lead to more terrorism - possibly even civil war - and no one wants that.
NI also contributes on £1 to the exchequer for every £7 it receives, so financially it would be a massive burden for the State too.
People in NI can choose their nationality, passport etc., the borders between the countries are extremely soft, a compromise of sorts has evolved over the years and 99% of people seem happy with it.
Sinn Fein will always remain a minority party, just because they've risen from nowhere does not mean that they'll continue to rise. Their appeal does not really stretch beyond sink estates and border counties, nor will it ever.
