Fifteen years ago, who would have thought that Sinn Fein would have been in a position to make such a manifesto pledge? Things have certainly changed in the emerald Isle! There would be another civil war before Ireland is united - maybe in a hundred years time!
Not gonna happen. As much as the Unionists in the north kick off about remaining separate, just as big an obstacle to unity is the deep-rooted fear many in the south have of bringing a bunch of hate-filled sectarians (from both sides) into their country.
They are British and have fought for the country in two world wars, if Irish unification did happen and the Unionists did not feel comfortable remaining in Ulster then they have every right to return to the mainland.
The f***ing Irish can't afford to run what they have at the moment. Other than historial and romantic notions of a united Ireland they don't want it. Anyone I've spoken to have said it could never work and it's best off with Britain paying for it.
This is all true, but has nothing to do with what I posted.

Disagree william, demographics have changed massively in recent years and there's a strong chance that a referendum could vote in favour of unification. If that happened I can't see any Irish government turning it down.
Thisireland for the irish
Fancy a long-term bet?Thing is Sinn Fein will never gain decent power in the Republic. They are the fourth party there. I can't see any party power sharing with them and would Sinn Fein concede power to whoever was in charge in Dublin? I doubt that.
I just can't see it happening.
cant see the problem with having referendum on Irish unity, not sure what the outcome would be but it would intresting to see the findings.
Fancy a long-term bet?
I'll give you evens we have a UII by 2025. If I'm still alive to pay up.![]()
I suspect if it had been done five or six years ago it would have been quite different to one held now. In the south anyway.
Go on then I'll have that. Just get your will adjusted to pay out![]()
