In place of Henderson? I reckon with Jordan on Right and Catts and Ireland in the middle you've got an excellent trio there. If you remove Catts from our midfield as it is though we've nee backbone what so ever.
Sign Ireland and N Zogbia. Play Henderson Ireland Catt N Zogbia across midfield.

If we get the chance to sign Stephen Ireland we would be mad to let it slip in my opinion...

I'd say it has more to do with Stephen Ireland than either Mancini or Houllier. He failed to hold down a first team place at City, and it looks to be going the same way at Villa. He's got no-one to blame but himself.

Well he wasn't doing anything wrong on the pitch so it must be something else.

If played in his best position (hole behind the striker) he can be deadly, anything else and he's not influential. Villa and City in his last season played him in a deeper role.

you could play

bent gyan

ireland

henderson, cattermole, meyler

cattermole sits, whilst meyler and henderson, bomb up and down in support of the forwards and back in defence. when out of possession, ireland drops back into midfield

just a possibility and i know its not perfect but its an option

He should play to the best of his ability wherever he is told to play! The lads got a bad attitude and i think he'd come in thinking he's the dogs and piss a lot of our players off. I would be interested to see how he would gel with the team but still think it's a risky one. Could SB get the best out of him? If he came at value for money then take a gamble, if it's silly money get in zog and leave the CM alone!

Fair points mate and I agree that the dressing room and team spirit seem good at the moment and that is worth keeping, but in this league I think you need more, you need matchwinners and that's these three are. We have some fantastic strikers and a good midfield but it lacks a bit of depth and genuine creativity. Like Iceman said Hughes had Bentley and Ireland playing very well and I haven't given up hope that they could reproduce that form, maybe Bruce would be capable of getting them to do it. Maybe not like.

I know exactly what you mean. They are tantalising for what they are capable of, it would all depend on Bruces man management skills.
Suppose we will just have to wait and see mate.
If we did sign any of the three, I hope I am wrong and they go and on and do brilliant things for SAFC.

he is

always played in teams that have finished above safc and is therefore in the "next level" of players, that we are striving to become

So that's all that's required to fit into the category of 'next level' is it? You just have to play for a team that finished higher in the league than we did?

Regardless of his ability, and his own opinion seems to be way ahead of reality, the lad has demonstrated on a number of occasions that he's clearly barking mad.

Team spirit appears to be pretty good at present, and I'd suggest that we need the likes of Ireland to the same degree that an unemployed family need another dog.

Agreed. He's talented but mental. He's be another Diouf.

if the deal was around £5 million, i think he could be a decent buy.

though he appears to be another modern footballer, with an overinflated view of his actual ability

too much money, to soon, for not much return, ireland. he is not the only one guilty of that though

And he's a cock, no thanks

not at all. i am just posting facts of irelands career. it is up to the experts such as yourself, to decide, if he would be a decent player for safc

He's played in 8(5 starts, 3 sub appearances) out of 13 games this season, totalling 389 minutes. Fair enough, he's in as much as he's out but obviously not a 1st pick.
good point

A little bite I see?

I'm not claiming to be an expert, and I would argue that it doesnt take an expert to agree that it's a players performance and attitude (both on and off the pitch) that distinguishes 'next level', rather then what team they've come from and where they last finished in the league.

Come back Diouff and Chimbo as well as Dean, Delap and the two Danny's.

I think there are enough doubts on his temperament to say NO, let alone the fact he hasn't "done it" for a while.

Heard on the radio the other day, "he was Man. City's Player of the year the season before last". Just wonder if they'll still be quoting '08/09 when he retires.
