Agreed.

What a squad we'd have if Bentley, Ireland, N'Zogbia and a left back were added to it.

I've got to disagree mate, Bentley is terminally lacking in pace and seems to believe he is 'it'.
I thought that when Ireland left Man City he could have kept his head down and taken the fresh start at Villa but he had plenty to say about leaving there in the papers, which smacked of bitterness to me. I don't think he is the kind of character we need in the dressing room.
The Zog, as much as he is a massive enigma I would defo have, I think he is better than the 2 above on his day.
All three of these players blow hot and cold but I think N'Zogbia is the best of the three when he is hot.

Regardless of his ability, and his own opinion seems to be way ahead of reality, the lad has demonstrated on a number of occasions that he's clearly barking mad.

Team spirit appears to be pretty good at present, and I'd suggest that we need the likes of Ireland to the same degree that an unemployed family need another dog.

Too much baggage, very expensive and a bit like Bentley, appears to be living off his reputation off of one, maybe two good seasons in his entire career.

Fair points mate and I agree that the dressing room and team spirit seem good at the moment and that is worth keeping, but in this league I think you need more, you need matchwinners and that's these three are. We have some fantastic strikers and a good midfield but it lacks a bit of depth and genuine creativity. Like Iceman said Hughes had Bentley and Ireland playing very well and I haven't given up hope that they could reproduce that form, maybe Bruce would be capable of getting them to do it. Maybe not like.

Decent post.

Ireland will be overpriced, and anybody who's played at man city in the last couple of years will be on inflated wages, even after a cut (paid off) to go to villa. Not worth it.

But scattergun approach to transfers is over - "he might be available" or "he's good" sign him up. Rather we need more of a targeted approach on positions now. We have a decent squad, although a few are loanees, we need to think where it needs improving most.

Left sided players are a problem, and will be more so. Steed has played there but he is past his peek and rarely lasts the full 90 mins. Welbeck does well there, but he's only a loanee and it's not his main position. Reid struggles for fitness, is in the final months of his contract, and imo wasteful of possession.

A LW such as NZog, would be a much higher priority than Ireland.

Not sure about him anymore. He hasn't shown anything for almost two years now, and I'm not sure he isn't going to end up in the 'Lee Sharpe' bracket.

No doubt he's talented, plenty of team mates and ex team mates say he's the best they've seen but doesn't seem to have the mentality to succeed, too much a risk as he's clearly a bit mental.

he drives a range rover with pink wheels.....do we need any more proof that the blokes a nutter! need a couple of centre backs anyway :-(

Is this thread and comments for real ??

Stephen Irelands fuckin class, ok hes not hit top form for about a year but blame that on Mancini freezing him out at City then farming him out to Villa.

A fully fit Ireland playing week in week out is 1 of the best attacking midfielders in the country.

Fuckin walk into our team...

Where would you put him?

Centre midfield.

In place of Henderson? I reckon with Jordan on Right and Catts and Ireland in the middle you've got an excellent trio there. If you remove Catts from our midfield as it is though we've nee backbone what so ever.

I'd say it has more to do with Stephen Ireland than either Mancini or Houllier. He failed to hold down a first team place at City, and it looks to be going the same way at Villa. He's got no-one to blame but himself.

Agree.

He was dominating games week in week out a couple of seasons ago, against the very best in the league.

He wasn't getting games under Mancini and hasn't settled at Villa yet by the looks of it. If they can get him close to any kind of decent form they will have a class player.
