Do we really want an "evil corporation", as oil companies tend to be considered, as our sponsors?

If they're paying us shit loads of cash, then of course we do.

What's the alternative, some shitty online poker site?

As a concept, we have nothing to do with Africa so it's all a bit silly for me. Maybe i'm being old fashioned and a bit cynical.

Surely Invest In Africa are just the public relations side of Tullow Oil, being an oil company they need a cause to promote to look good, and they'll spend a shit load of money to make it known, through an English Premier League Team, ie us.

it's a UK based sponsor apparently.

I may be wrong but arn't Tullow Oil on the English Stock Market, so technically British.

wasn't tombola founded in Sunderland? or it's a Sunderland based company anyway.

and isn't the Invest In Africa charity the work of Tullow Oil? SO surely any sponsorship deal would be funded by them, regardless which logo goes on the shirt. Tullow Oil at home, Invest In Africa on the away kit?

Sounds good to me.

Private companies plow money into them which pays us for advertisements. Not for profit doesn't mean they can spend a fuck on of cash or get a fuck ton in revenue. Just means its invested back in itself instead of the owners/shareholders

I think this pretty much sums up what happens with Invest in Africa/Tullow Oil but that explanation does confuse me a little.

In layman's terms what does that all mean?

I don't even understand your statement....? What does ' as a concept we have nothing to do with Africa' mean????

I thought Invest in Africa was similar to the Qatar Foundation. Non for profit org but has massive money backing from companies. In this case Tullow Oil?

I still prefer to live in the Football word were it's about the sport, not the money.

You are correct of course. Quinn no doubt got disheartened by the money chasing as he really is at the end of the day a football man who saved our club.

I can still remember a very emotional Steve Ovett on camera crying and saying how his beloved sport was becoming more about money than anything else.

source ? otherwise thats bollocks

Agree with all the above and the CEO of Tullow Oil is Irish, fits in well with our former Chairman and Irish-American owner.

On a personal level I think putting Invest In Africa on our shirts is a masterstoke. Went to Kenya on Honeymoon last year and the people are mad for their football and just as crazy about their country. Could be the start of a very good relationship, Africa is an amazing country and i'm all for this.

Aye, fair enough - I agree.

But if you can't beat em......

Quinn left to pursue his internet business. Which isn't a charity - I guess he will be chasing money.

good points, but Africa isn't a country, at least not the last time I checked.
