Indoor bowls.

Just watching a bit of this.
I am sure with a year of practice and full commitment you could actually compete at a very high level and even qualify for the world championship.
Got to be one of the easiest sports to excel at?

Love watching the bowls me. Friday night, sun beating down, pint on seats overlooking the bowls green, watching them chase the bowl they’ve just thrown down.

Four of us off for our first 'trial session' tomorrow at Jack Clark Park in Shields. I found me dad's old set of woods in the attic when I was clearing out my house last year so I'll at least look the part on my way in.

Keep us informed. Looks a piece of piss.
Every bowl has to be near the jack, can you manage that backhand and forehand?

I’m sure I can learn in a year 😎
Is there much money or flange in it?

Not really. Maybe an old woman with plenty of money.

I went once with my granny as a kid to an indoor one at community centre, half way down they had this wooden device that you couldn't bowl straight and you had to bowl around it. Nearly everyone hit the device

Played bowls around 19/20 years old, was on day shifts, 3 on 3 off. Took it up to kill some time, only lasted over a 6-8 month summer, but you do get quite handy at it quickly if you have the right mind set to understand the strategy's, others (Few idiot new starters) just want to hoy a bowl down there and smash every other away and win, just doesn't work like that. Social side was canny, some of the old boys have some good tales and fairly open as the missus is at home watching daytime TV shite.

I took up outdoor bowls 4 years ago and it took a long time to come to terms with the different states of the many rinks. Last September I started bowling indoors and it was a nightmare to get it right given the pace of the mat. Most of the bowlers have played indoor/outdoor for many years and, although I haven't been called a wa**er, their facial expressions certainly suggests that.

Outdoor is a lot easier to get started. Indoor easier to get consistently good but you need to practice more indoor.

Has anyone played "Crown Green" Bowls ?
It's very popular in the North West. My father-in-law played it and have inherited his bowls and jack.
It looks far more interesting than the standard bowls. You can vary the length of where you roll the jack and each green's dimensions differ a lot. Also there is the slope/rise or hump that you bowl across.
Does anyone know if there is any Crown Green played in the North East ?
