Incinerator on edge of washington

Anyone know much about this and the public meeting at the SOL on Tuesday? Anyone planning on going
Apparently it’s a massive thing employing only 30 people but the environmental impact is huge, just heard a little about this today, and it should be stopped

Sunderland council, have rejected the application but the company have appealed, hence the meeting.

And as always it’s about money and there are a lot of untruths and lies about how ugh would be burnt and how much leccy would be generated

Also it’s on the old rail track, so if any future rail or metro development were to happen it’s a dead duck

Council row after "gasification incinerator" proposal is REFUSED planning permission!

Controversial proposals to build a "gasification incinerator" in Washington have been dramatically halted following a heated exchange at the recent Planning and Highways Committee meeting. This proposed construction project has been dubbed the "Monster Incinerator" by local pressure group No Monster Incinerator In Washington who celebrated the news of the planning refusal.

On their Facebook page they stated they are "Over the moon to bring you the good news that the planning application was rejected". The group however anticipate that firm Rolton Kilbride will appeal the decision with a Rolton Kilbride spokeswoman stating "Naturally, we are very disappointment with the committee's decision".

All councillors on the panel voted to reject the plans, except Coun Mel Speding, who abstained.

Thanks Mel, you complete waste of space.
Don’t want it anywhere in Sunderland/Washington

Build it down south.

It’s not right
Anyone who is against it and has the time should try and go

I've been on the radio a few times about it to try and get the message out. To be fair to Sharon Hodgson she has done pretty much all she could aswell. She even brought it to the attention of Boris at PMQs last week and even if the appeal passes is trying to secure a motion so that it still needs to be approved by the Secretary of State and is lobbying him to block it.

It's a good way to deal with waste but I've no idea what the implications of it are, does anyone or is it just a case of just not wanting it?

Totally not needed. All of our household waste in north east goes (bar Newcastles) to the Suez incinerator in Billingham, which is located amongst other heavy industry.

This plant would be looking to bring in commercial waste from all over. If it were to treat our own waste then I’d have more support for it.

There’s loads of spare spots at Wilton or Seal Sands where this sort of thing would be more suited. There’s even a mothballed plant half built (by air products) there. I understand they largely want to supply power to Nissan though, hence the Washington setup.
What to be exact?
Standard incinerator will give out NOX and SOX amongst other gases although they will have to clean up the chimney emissions, which will be monitored and checked against an emission standard

It's going to have a chimney stack the size of durham house pumping out incinerated plastic waste. Rolton Kilbride are using technology that has never been used before in the UK to do it so no one knows the full extent of the shit that's going to be pumped into the air. Why should residents and children right next to it be the guinea pigs and breathe it in. On top of that it's all the pollution from the lorries to transport the waste to it every day.
