In defence of Stewart

No one is persecuting him. He gets some justified criticism and the soft lads get in a tiz. He's the owner, the buck stops with him and quite frankly what is being "delivered" is unacceptable.

I agree to a certain extent, the justified criticism about on-pitch fortunes is all well and good

Calling him a chancer, cowboy, conman etc... and accusing him of bleeding the club dry however is beyond the pale in my opinion.

That is all well and good and I am sure the majority want to get behind him, but he is judged by what happens on the pitch. If it was going well he would be praised to high heaven. I believe he is trying to do the right thing, that does not make him qualified to do the right thing though
I think the answer to this is Bury. Successful on the pitch but no longer in the place the fans want to be.
We have an over inflated squad for value and they should on paper be sufficient for the task. How as a CEO can you change the playing side of a specialist department is a very difficult to comprehend, as you do not have the skill set to do it.

I really do struggle with the negativity of some of the posters on here. I have been a Sunderland fan for 65 years and have seen some very depressing times and some real chancers. However in Stewart’s case I genuinely believe he has the best interests of Sunderland football club at heart. He is honest enough to admit that he has made mistakes (haven’t we all) but to persecute him in the way he has been I think reflects badly on us as genuine fans. The club needs unity and should get behind him.... stop the vitriol and let’s really get behind the club.

I think he said that they were never looking to sell the club.
Well can you please clarify what that Falkirk fella was all about then, the one that was choosing his own office?
At the time, wasn't it reported the guy in question, was it Mark Campbell, that he was going to be the new owner?
Just so many conflicting things reported/said that it's difficult to keep up.

I’m sure he’s a nice man but he’s taken us to the lowest position in our history and secured finance against the club’s assets. The job seems beyond him and I hope he moves on.

You beat me by two years, this is the lowest point in the club’s history. I have seen what you have seen but I never thought I would see the day when we would struggle against poor teams such as we are playing now.. I am astounded That these owners took over a club such as this. Their apparent inability to properly fund promotion has put us where we are. It was their choice, they must accept the blame.

Blind faith is as corrosive as perpetual cynicism in my book . safc support is a broad church of opinion but all want the best for our club and as long as is not abusive i have no problem with people not agreeing with me!
You say we have had some real chancers in the past and thats your opinion but you must realise rhat other folk might not have seen them as chancers and this is the case with our present management/owners.

I personally look at what they actually do and not what they say they are going to do and in truth on the footballing side they have failed miserably and the picture of our goalkeeper retrieving the ball from the stands in the SOL was a new low for me!

Same on here too.

why is it the only people throwing insults around are those defending SD? Calling fellow supporters idiots, thick, unintelligent, arseholes ad Infinitum. Does irony bypass them?

The last few days have been canny, eg,

“Can someone explain if it’s a loan or investment”?

“Fuck off you idiot, stop being negative, mag, wum prick”

There was an attempt to fund it with a proven goal scorer. Nobody knew he'd turn out to be a disinterested dud.

TBF we were all pleased we signed Grigg on transfer day even though for a highly inflated fee. Sadly it’s been a disaster but we’d all be wiser with the benefit of hindsight.

He seems like he’s a nice man and he’s done a lot to engage with and help the fans.

Part of me thinks that his is a job for a hard nosed bastard.
I know he’s stopped funding the foundation which would really help people in this region , this is why Sir Bob Murray started to have a dig . The helping fans thing was all part of their pr masterplan to take everyone in . Give a little and try and flip for massive profit . Only gone a bit tits up now .
You are spot on imo that it is a job for a right hard nosed bastard though.

Your right of course. Thing is how long is reasonable to restructure a football club or indeed most large organisations?
1,2 3 years ???
Iam in the 3 years camp before I will judge him fully. Don’t forget in that time we could be promoted and relegated again... it’s not just about promotion in the first instance.

Time is always the great abiter of arguments.........we will eventually find out their true metal in the next year or so beginning with the january window.Everbody knows we need as a minimum a striker and a pacy strong midfielder in january ...if donals and co are doing their job right they will have targets and are willing to pay over the odds for them ..lets wait and see what happens in january ,but my guess would be no over the odds buys but a loan or two of kids or has beens from the championship or lower prem!
