I'm on, with my max stake. Buying money

why dont we just be like america and ban regular gambling?

cos we arent dullards

On reflection I like this idea. The amount of betting advertising around football is terrible especially with so many children watching Sky matches. However, banning them from shirts is irrelevant if we are still getting the likes of Ray Winstone offering bets at half time etc.

Surely has to go the same way as tobacco did when that was banned in sports, formula one was huge on it at one point and they've moved on.

It's disgusting these days. You can't open a webpage now without it showing a betting site ffs

TBf like it's easy being labour. Their only job is to say random things that no volume of people will really disagree with (are many people actually pro betting advertising on shirts? The most opposition they will get is 'I simply don't care'). Or say 'the government is wrong'....

I could do that job

On the subject of advertising on shirts I'm very much of the opinion it'll make no difference. A very well paid person is utterly wasting his time talking shite and not changing anything imho.

Fair enough we might all have been enticed into spending £5 on a cheeky bet by an advert, but Can anyone blame their 'addiction' on a slogan on stoke city's shirt?

i use my brain and choose what i use.

in fact the more advertising the less likely I am to purchase, especially people pushing energy deals etc.

if i want a bet, I'll have one but then i suppose its down to having an individual responsibility.

Are you serious?

It's the kids man. They watch the team ( stoke city if you like) and their heroes have a betting site advertised on them so, what do they do? Get on their smartphones coz they've all got um and start playing.

It's what "free spins " are for.

Next thing you know, the credit card bill comes in

Happened to my sister and her boy once:neutral:

I work in the online gambling industry, I'd back this move, but it's more important to focus on the Fixed Odds Betting Machines in bookies (they have a limit for how many you can have in a single shop, which is why there's shitloads of bookies in Sunderland). These things are catnip to compulsive gamblers and you can lose thousands in minutes. The problem is the govt are worried about losing tax revenue from gambling companies so they're cagey about more restrictions.

I do think there's an element of gamblers will gamble regardless of advertising, shirt sponsorship is more about brand awareness in a crowded marketplace ('look we exist as well') than attracting new gamblers, but with the constant ads and odds and deals etc it's hard to escape and wears down people's defences.

I've always that a weird rule. Kids can't have them on their kits but the players they watch religiously on TV/youtube etc do - makes no sense.

If I remember correctly, it's something to do with it being seen as the wearer of the shirt is also endorsing the logo that is emblazoned on it. So a young kid wearing a Dafabet logo could be argued to also be advertising the firm, and that's a big no-no in the gambling industry. It's one of the three main objectives of the Gambling Commission to protect under 18's from being influenced into gambling. This is also the reason why betting shops aren't allowed to advertise their roulette machine games in the windows any more, as a lot of them had cartoon-type characters and themes on them, which could have attracted youngsters into trying them out.

It's bonkers.... It won't improve the situation one iota.
As a former gambler with a serious addiction, and I will always be a gambler although I don't gamble now, I can say categorically that this will improve things massively and you're talking out of your arse, certainly from my own viewpoint, seeing betting ads on tv and on shirts was always a trigger for me to start gambling again. It'll become like cig advertising is now in the future and the sooner the better

Gambling like booze destroys lives. If shirt sponsorship didnt work then they wouldnt pay millions to sponsor clubs...Do our kids need to be bombarded by this bull shit?

It's never had any affect on me what-so-ever. I gamble on sites of my choosing, not because of any advertising swaying me.

The point of advertising is you dont know it has influenced you, it is subliminal......I recently set up a betting account for football, what was the first company I looked for to see if they had any deals? Dafabet.....Now, why would that be?

Seems a fairly logical idea to me, adverts in the game target young lads even if the companies don't intend to. Gambling is an evil temptation to a lot of people, just like booze, tabs and gear on a weekend.
