If/when we get back to the premier league

Same as I said when we went up last season.

Relegation is failure in the first season
Anything else is acceptable.

Going into the last few games with our fate in our own hands is probably what I'd expect/hope for

We have a good side that's done remarkably well, and theyve genuinely surprised me.

But I don't see us spending much and I think it's incredibly naive to say we wouldn't have anything to fear from Wolves, Fulham, Palace etc. They're established premier league teams for a reason.

Fulham aren't established

More delusion.

You think with a full squad All season we’d have got over 100 points?
I suspect we'd have been second in the league ahead of Sheffield Utd and closer to Burnley than Sheffield finished.
Burnley are therefore not MUCH (OP original claim) better than a fully fit Sunderland squad.
Don't fall into the trap of believing that this league is anything special nor underestimate how much our injuries have hampered our progress; this makes achieving a playoff place all the more impressive.

We'd comfortably be in a battle with the bottom 6. But that's fine, as long as we escaped relegation the season would be a monumental success. Thinking we are able to match the likes of West Ham is just plain daft.

We have put limitations when the owners have said from the beginning that they will not pump money in. We are no different other than crowd size, which these days does not give any significant advantage.

where do you get this assumption that the owners aren’t putting any money in?
Do you believe it was cheap getting Amad (who Man U paid 40m Euros)? I would expect there was a substantial loan fee and a contribution towards his wages. Then there was about £10m for Clarke who Tottenham had paid £20m for. You can’t expect him to take a massive wage cut to come here. I think they have spent the money wisely, but spent more than people think.

They have said right from the beginning sndon numerous occasions they want it ran sustainablly. That does not equate to pumping money in, hence no greater ceiling (at this point)than Brentford, Burnley etc. That is the approach they want to take as an ownership.

What is our realistic ambition/achievable position?

Obviously we don't want to to back to aiming for 17th every season, fire and hire, repeat until look runs out.

With the money in that division now - what would people expect? Mid table at best each year?
Biggest mistake, in hindsight, was failing to commit to a long term plan, even if that plan accepted that relegation might happen.
Throwing everything at it, every year, with a "don't get relegated at all costs", just kicked the can until we crashed into a massive pit of cans.

We have to grit our teeth and appreciate we might just go straight back down, but banking £50m+ means the next time we come up, we're stronger. And it might take 2-3 goes like this to be able to really progress.

They put in 10 million, in the form of loans, last year to cover transfers when we were taking an operational lost. They probably did similarly this year and will do the same next if we need it.

But fundamentally we are much less likely to make a loss cos our tv money will jump from 10 million to 100 million a year. Harvey will have resources to get targets,

Brentford is a good example of running it substantially and yet overachieving

It's extremely difficult, some clubs get that bounce / continuation like Leeds did in the first season with Bielsa but look at where they are now. Others throw everything at it and still gan down.

Even with smart recruitment it's difficult to survive the first few seasons, every side is pretty much data driven now so it's no guarentee.
