If we win against Leeds..(Dodds as manager)

he's head of player development and i'd expect he'd be in that role irrespective of the new manager coming in. it's a long term role which is a huge part of 'the model'.
Not done bad so far to be fair

Pep guardian and klopp were both appointed from within when they started management.

Not saying I'd appoint Dodds because I absolutely wouldn't. But that doesn't mean a good coach/manager to be can't step up.

Will Still was promoted from Assistant Manager at Reims.

Bob Paisley was an awful appointment at Liverpool, wasn't he?
The Liverpool boot room was an anomaly. Paisley, Fagan and Evans were groomed for internal promotion for decades. Managers are changed too frequently nowadays for that kind of internal succession planning.

There’s a tendency for talented people to be promoted and eventually end up beyond their capability. He’s doing a great job at his current level and the current leadership team will know him extremely well. It’s ridiculous to decide based on the outcome of a couple of games and that I’m certain is not how it’s playing out. What may happen after the selection process is that they will consider him against their preferred candidate and choose on merit.
That's a full blown management concept called the Peter principle, after the author who proposed it. It essentially says that people are promoted to the level at which they become incompetent. The small number of exceptions are the talented few whose ability exceeds the requirements of the top jobs.

Good coach with young players, but wouldn’t be confident in him as head coach.

We need someone who’s had experience of that role beforehand imo - even if it’s someone young like Still or Hellberg.

As another poster has pointed out he's doing well in his day job, why muck that up too.

Exactly He will be out of a job in less than 2 years at our rate of knots, and Iam not sure he has the strength of character to carry the role off, but you will never know unless you give him a chance..

I'd personally have him in the same camp as Sable, ie not wanting safc to make a gamble giving someone their very first job. Still and Hellberg appear to be different propositions.

If we win against Leeds do we not start thinking about Mike Dodds as new manager ?
He knows the players and was the constant when Neil left.
Has had big success with the Bellinghams .
Might be worth a punt..sometimes better the devil ye know ??
No.

A lot will depend on how close we are to appointing someone who is on Speakman’s list.
I naively thought when Mowbray was sacked that we had someone lined up. Clearly we didn’t.
The changes Dodds made for the West Brom game (full backs playing as full backs, Bellingham playing up front, playing it long at different times, taking control after half time, bringing Pritchard on) all seemed to work.
If a “new coach” had made those changes we would all be full of praise and saying it is all looking good.
So if he is in charge for a few games, and he does well, he will be considered - rightly or wrongly.
I assume Speakman knows him very well and will know whether he has the qualities to be considered.

It was hardly rocket science. He has been told to drop the way of playing they have had most of the season to accommodate those 4 strikers and revert to what the players were comfortable with I.e. play his best team.
TM should have refused to play those strikers and he would still be in a job…. But his job was get them playing.. damned if he did dammed if he didn’t.
Reverting to our best team/formation is buying the club time but I don’t think this is how they want to play long term. At this time it’s Speakmans own neck v playing his strikers who are now going to be sacrificial lambs I suspect

Keep him until we lose or draw (which could be tonight). Never know, he might win every remaining fixture. In which case, cult hero status confirmed and we have a top manager.

Worth giving him the chance.
