Im not convinced he's comfortable being the main guy. It Isnt a criticism as such its more a reflection of how he comes across. Every head coach needs an assistant and i think he's still suited to the assistant role
Pep guardian and klopp were both appointed from within when they started management.
Not saying I'd appoint Dodds because I absolutely wouldn't. But that doesn't mean a good coach/manager to be can't step up.
The Liverpool boot room was an anomaly. Paisley, Fagan and Evans were groomed for internal promotion for decades. Managers are changed too frequently nowadays for that kind of internal succession planning.Bob Paisley was an awful appointment at Liverpool, wasn't he?
This is the key issue . You need that experience or some playing experienceApart from anything else odds has a major lack of experience. He's never even been an assistant head coach never mind the top job.
That's a full blown management concept called the Peter principle, after the author who proposed it. It essentially says that people are promoted to the level at which they become incompetent. The small number of exceptions are the talented few whose ability exceeds the requirements of the top jobs. There’s a tendency for talented people to be promoted and eventually end up beyond their capability. He’s doing a great job at his current level and the current leadership team will know him extremely well. It’s ridiculous to decide based on the outcome of a couple of games and that I’m certain is not how it’s playing out. What may happen after the selection process is that they will consider him against their preferred candidate and choose on merit.
As another poster has pointed out he's doing well in his day job, why muck that up too. This is the key issue . You need that experience or some playing experience
People were calling him and proctor all sorts not that long ago![]()

I'd personally have him in the same camp as Sable, ie not wanting safc to make a gamble giving someone their very first job. Still and Hellberg appear to be different propositions.Exactly He will be out of a job in less than 2 years at our rate of knots, and Iam not sure he has the strength of character to carry the role off, but you will never know unless you give him a chance..
No.If we win against Leeds do we not start thinking about Mike Dodds as new manager ?
He knows the players and was the constant when Neil left.
Has had big success with the Bellinghams .
Might be worth a punt..sometimes better the devil ye know ??
A lot will depend on how close we are to appointing someone who is on Speakman’s list.
I naively thought when Mowbray was sacked that we had someone lined up. Clearly we didn’t.
The changes Dodds made for the West Brom game (full backs playing as full backs, Bellingham playing up front, playing it long at different times, taking control after half time, bringing Pritchard on) all seemed to work.
If a “new coach” had made those changes we would all be full of praise and saying it is all looking good.
So if he is in charge for a few games, and he does well, he will be considered - rightly or wrongly.
I assume Speakman knows him very well and will know whether he has the qualities to be considered.
Still have nightmares about the Sbragia eraWhen does it work? It’s not 1975 anymore.
We had a few wins when he was caretaker, everyone got excited and he got the job. It almost immediately went to shit.Still have nightmares about the Sbragia era
