If we keep up our current Points Per Game average

Based on the last two premier league seasons our current 1.46 PPG would sit us either 9th (based on last season, we would finish ahead of birmingham) or 7th (the season before as we would take the place of Fulham). I for one would be very happy with this, it seems you need to hit around 1.6ish PPG to get inside the top 6, I'm not sure if we are capable of doing that, but maybe we are, if we don't have a blip.

I know this means virtually nothing, but its monday lunchtime and I like stats.

I'm not saying we will, but hopefully we will boost the average of the next batch of games where we will play a lot of, dare I say it, beatable teams.

Yeah, I think by Christmas we should add around .10 at least to that, but we still do have the top 4 to play again by the end of the season, so it probably will even itself out to about 1.50ish. Which will certainly put us in contention for a european spot, depending of course on how the league fairs this season.

this is no average season though mate, that average could see us finish 6-7th this year if we can maintain it. Also remember that we've not had the easiest of starts, so logic states (and should therefore be ignored) that our average PPG will increase

....with our current form against 'beatable teams' putting us within the bottom 6 of the premier league (PPG)

I am happy to see the Goal Difference in the positive ATM too. Have we ever had a positive GD at the end of a season in PL? Be kind I am not a stato; have a crap memory (toooo many knocks on the head); and can never be arsed to look stuff like that up.

True, with both of our defeats coming in those games. That's why the lead up to Christmas will give us teh idea of where we will finish this season. This is an important month and a bit.

Surely if we are saying we'll get the same points per game over the season then everyone else should and we'll finish in our current position

I suppose that's the point, its based on a level of consistency, that's why certain teams always qualify for europe and other teams finish in the bottom half. If we remain consistent in our results then we should finish there.

Cheers Mate,

Lets hope the start of another new decade is an omen.

That would put us on 55 points, which is what I thought was a reasonable target for the season.

So to make us a contender for Europe this season, based on the last two seasons, we would need to find another 6 points from somewhere. (between a 1.63 and 1.68 average)

Aye, but if we win tonight, and then win the next six matches, we'll be averaging exactly 2.00 ppg.

Where would 76 points at the end of the season put us?

9th is the target I believe SAFC set for themselves this season anarl. In otherwords: "The best of the rest" finishing just behind the predictable top eight.
Then we attempt to break in to the top 8 over the course of the next few seasons before finally bypassing the UEFA plaeces with our triumphant 2115/16 title winning triumph.
