If we go up this season we should be aiming for top 6 in championship next season

People go on about the championship now as if it’s this fantastic league where you have to spend hundreds of millions to get out of it but look at Barnsley winning every week now. If they can do it no reason why we can’t if we try and get 5/6 good players in . Maybe 2/3 premiership loans and 2/3 permanent signings
I'd be disappointed if we didn't win The Champions League, The Ashes and The Boat Race

Can't believe that anyone thinks that we shouldn't be aiming to be at the top end of the championship as soon as we can get back into it.

No club has a god given right to anything, but in the whole of our 120 year existence we have only spent 34 years outside of the top division, the longest spells being 6 seasons each. Very best case scenario it's already going to be 5 seasons this time. We shouldn't settle for mediocrity and I don't think that our owner and manager will either.

Well those 34 years have all been in the last 50 odd. I think we should aim as high as we can get but i've never been one about 'rightful place' or the fact that our tradition counts for anything in terms of where we should be. Essentially it will come down to finance and how well we are managed as a team and a club. That's the same whether you are any club.

This thread.

4th in League One and people are already disappointed if we're not 6th in the Championship next season.

The OP was happy with 6th place in League One not too long ago.

If we do get promotion, next year is going to be really challenging.
I think the general view of the board is that we'll need a minimum of 4 or more players and we will be playing in a league which has a lot of ambitious, able, sides in it.
We have at least 3 key players coming to the end of their careers. Many others untested at Championship level for whom it is going to be a very steep learning curve. Two or more nursing serious injuries that may prove damaging in the long term.
LJ, Speakman and KLD have all spoken, quite rightly, of a sustainable policy in regard to expenditure. That means developing younger players and astute transfer deals. And patience.
I think, optimistically, to be serious promotion candidates will take at least 2 more, likely, 3 seasons.
I'll be delighted if I'm proved wrong.

After the cack we’ve put up with I’d be more than happy to spend 3-5 years in the championship bringing the youth through to being world beaters and give us a proper solid base to establish in the premier league again, not like last time spending ridiculous amounts on mediocre players once in a while finding a gem

What do you actually know about "the Brentford model"?

They've signed the best part of 60 players over the last 3 seasons.
I've read my part about it. Owner has made a fortune on betting, moneyball, almost every season since his taken has been a plus on the transfer business. Really quite simple to grasp but hard to implement.

If buts and maybes.
The championship is on a different planet to division 1

So if we find ourselves in the Championship next season, will you be expecting a playoff push?

That isn't the point. It stands to reason that those wanting us to make the play offs won't be happy if we're 16th in the league.

And again, how do you promote the signing of loads of young players and justify our academy? Their approach works for them due to not having an academy, which is the opposite of how we operate.

But it's still mostly shite.

It's got weaker for sure but div 1 is a hopeless division now.
