If we go up this season we should be aiming for top 6 in championship next season

Sunday showed the rest of Britain that we're back. It was our best result at Wembley for 48 years and an amazing win (credit to Tranmere for trying). We really should be allowed to defend our Trophy with the first team and not the Under 23's (Wouldn't they be finishing too low to get an invite anyway?). If we all got together and petitioned Papa John's and the FA, surely they'd have to give it fair consideration. After all, winners of the Champion's League are allowed back in, even if they are not in a qualifying home league position. We must have a good case on this. We can't just cave in and let someone else steal our trophy in an unjust way, especially as we'd have a superb chance at retaining it.
Shouldn't you be at school by now ?

Ok then, how much would you say if it laughable?
Depends how good the recruitment team are. Anything from zero to £50 million maximum. Also depends on over what period you are talking in fairness so perhaps laughable was harsh. Thought you meant in one season on first read.

I have not studied them but I doubt Reading or Barnsley have spent £100 million. Or even Brentford if you take off what they have made in player sales.

To be fair I'd not really be bothered if we never went back in the prem . Fair win percentage , good footy , full houses , sound financial footing, local young uns coming through , maybe win a decent cup . Would all do me in the championship rather than struggle in the prem ... of course if KLD is going to do it in style and go full on big time that's different .

What decent cup could we win with a Championship squad? I doubt we'd sell out if we were hanging around mid table in the Championship as well.

Fair play for being optimistic. I'm already nervous for tomorrow, it'll be interesting to see how the lads react after their celebrations and booze up. Well deserved I may add, but I hope they're ready to fight tooth and nail to get us in the automatic promotion spots. Teams (us included) will slip up, so we can afford a couple of poor results. Let's hope we can afford them come the last week of the season now. 3 points on Wednesday please lads.

 WTF?

Are they?

The owner only took over in 2017. They've had 5 'permanent' managers/head coaches in that time - the current one having just taken over in October.

As a Barnsley fan on here the other day says, they only have 3 players remaining from League 1 which was just two seasons ago.
Aye, I mean in terms of recruitment, they haven't gone wild spending a fortune and the players they've brought have been to fit in a system and also players they can build up a sell on for profit. We should obviously be aiming to do better, but there is proof that having a system across the whole clubs doesn't require massive spending and its achievable within a couple of seasons.

I'd also say that 4 years counts as years in my book 😂

Nagh. Not having it that most would be satisfied with survival or mid table. Once we actually go up most peoples expectations will shift. Especially with the current ownership!
I agree with that. Regardless of what people will think at the moment as soon as a few 1 - 1 draws come in it'll be "we're crap", "get rid of the manager", "cant stand watching this sh**", "told you so" etc etc

People go on about the championship now as if it’s this fantastic league where you have to spend hundreds of millions to get out of it but look at Barnsley winning every week now. If they can do it no reason why we can’t if we try and get 5/6 good players in . Maybe 2/3 premiership loans and 2/3 permanent signings
People on here go absolutely f***ing mental over it. You'd think the league above us was some kind of European super league

Well that's fair enough.

I've seen mention of five year plans etc - five years is too long in football. That's time to build two squads, including a contract renewal period.

The way I see it, the squad will need to be overhauled this summer. If as we hope that's in preparation for a Championship season then why only prepare for a relegation fight/consolidation? It's nuts. The recruitment drive has to be that we're the best club in the division. Come to Sunderland because we're going places.

Would be satisfied with anything between 10th and 18th. Try and avoid a full on relegation battle as that can drain confidence and make players think twice about joining. Build some solid foundations and look towards the play offs the season after and if not achieved, then by season 3 you certainly would have to look at top 6 imo. Obviously if we were riding the wave and did end up challenging then theres never a bad time to be promoted. Yes it can be too early and you can end up coming back down but the extra revenue would also continue to help us build. Keep LJ for 4 or 5 years at least no matter what happens and let him build us from the ground up.

You'll get loads of stick for merely being positive. I'd only disagree because you'll need at least eleven signings and probably more. Getting them all to immediately gel would be impossible.

I would hope we could convince the FA and Papa John's to allow us to defend our Trophy. It wouldn't be right to have to hand back the Trophy in a year when we not even allowed to participate in it.

Jesus wept. Its embarrassing enough being in it without asking if we can defend it.

The rest of Britain? Noone else watched it man.

Surely you didn't feel embarrased all Sunday when we won our first final for almost half a century?

It's four years, but five managers in that time. That doesn't sound to me like 4 years of steady planning. That sounds like a club simply rolling with the changes and having a good run. And for all they're currently 6th in the table, they've achieved nothing yet.

Not at all, but I'm under no illusion that the rest of Britain could give a toss, if they were even aware. We should hope our first team never plays in that competition again.
