If we go up this season we should be aiming for top 6 in championship next season

Massive gap between L1 and the Championship. Anything above the bottom three will do for a newly promoted side. Then kick on the season after.

Would be happy just to stay up. I think we’re due a bad run of games fairly soon, same as every other team in League One. It’ll be how we bounce back from that which will decide if we go up or not. Wouldn’t want to be heading into the play offs with a rejuvenated Ipswich and possibly Portsmouth.

People go on about the championship now as if it’s this fantastic league where you have to spend hundreds of millions to get out of it but look at Barnsley winning every week now. If they can do it no reason why we can’t if we try and get 5/6 good players in . Maybe 2/3 premiership loans and 2/3 permanent signings
Agree. It's massively over rated on here. Top 6-8 teams are strong, outside of that, meh.

Lot of jinx type threads being posted
Two dozen players and half a dozen coaches graft every day to prepare to try and win matches in order to clinch promotion.

Little do they realise that in spite of their efforts their success is determined by whether posters on here start off a jinx thread, wear their lucky socks or drive a particular route to the match.

Back in the early 70s my mate and I would listen to Radio Durham on a Saturday afternoon when the lads were playing away. There was no commentary just updates from the ground every few minutes or if a goal was scored.

We reckoned if we could both hold our breath for a minute the lads would score. I don’t think we ever managed a minute without bursting into laughter. Our excuse for being so daft is we were young kids and did grow out of it.

Many on here still think tomorrow night’s result could be affected by whether they put a bet on the result or mention that an opposing forward hasn’t scored for a while.😳

Personally I was shocked when we dropped down to this level about how bad it was. There’s a massive gulf in class imo. We have looked awful in many games this season yet only lost 5. We’d have been slaughtered the level above. 5/6 good players would of course make a difference, but with our recruitment record I’ll believe it when I see it. Hopefully the new regime will change that.

Top 6 might be a bit high, but a mid table season would be nice. Purely hypothetical but I would hope we could convince the FA and Papa John's to allow us to defend our Trophy. It wouldn't be right to have to hand back the Trophy in a year when we not even allowed to participate in it.

Na a think just finishing mid table I would be happy. With this isn’t a quick fix the championship is a much harder division and where going to need a massive rebuild if we do go up , we also need to spend wisely

Really not sure these threads are wise as there is still a lot of the present season to play.

In the event we are promoted, we all need to be realistic though. Our first season back in the championship will be about avoiding relegation and building the right foundations

Our under 23s will be in it if we get promoted
Top 6 in the champ from league 1 would need ~£100m investment
Laughable. No way.

Let’s just try and get out of this league first, we only just beat a league 2 team and there’s some tough games towards the end of the season.

 WTF?
Barnsley are reaping the rewards of having a good set up and a plan they built on for years now.

We need to do the same, it will take time but its worth it.
Are they?

The owner only took over in 2017. They've had 5 'permanent' managers/head coaches in that time - the current one having just taken over in October.

As a Barnsley fan on here the other day says, they only have 3 players remaining from League 1 which was just two seasons ago.

Unbelievable comment.

I'd be delighted if Sunday was our last game in that competition ......ever

Sunday showed the rest of Britain that we're back. It was our best result at Wembley for 48 years and an amazing win (credit to Tranmere for trying). We really should be allowed to defend our Trophy with the first team and not the Under 23's (Wouldn't they be finishing too low to get an invite anyway?). If we all got together and petitioned Papa John's and the FA, surely they'd have to give it fair consideration. After all, winners of the Champion's League are allowed back in, even if they are not in a qualifying home league position. We must have a good case on this. We can't just cave in and let someone else steal our trophy in an unjust way, especially as we'd have a superb chance at retaining it.
