If we go up this season we should be aiming for top 6 in championship next season

People go on about the championship now as if it’s this fantastic league where you have to spend hundreds of millions to get out of it but look at Barnsley winning every week now. If they can do it no reason why we can’t if we try and get 5/6 good players in . Maybe 2/3 premiership loans and 2/3 permanent signings
We’ve just scraped over the line against League 2 Tranmere and you are proposing a Championship play off place ?

It’s no wonder we blow hot and cold as a club, fans like you need to have realistic ambitions and then hope for a little bit more.

Now isn’t the time to aim for the stars

Why would anyone be happy with mid table ? It's not like previous years when we have a squad full of deadwood that we can't get rid of. We have the opportunity to shift this squad out and build a new one, we don't have to give this lot a new contract as a reward for promotion (If it happens.) If they are no use going forward then they should be shown the door, we should only give new contracts to players who have the potential to shine in this league, (O'Nien, Hume, Willis, McGeady, Wyke (I don't actually think he's good enough but you can't ignore his goals) & possibly give Diamond another year to develop)
I'd imagine we'll keep Stewart even if he's crap, we should try for Sanderson & Jones.

The rest are 3rd division standard or below and should be sold or released. The likes of AOB, Power, McLoughlin, Leadbitter and Scowen were all released by average Championship clubs.

There's a lot of work to do in terms of identifying and signing good players but that's the ambition I want to see, not offering new contracts to the current plodders.

The Championship is an absolute basket case, 70% of clubs are losing a boat load of money. I doubt Kyril’s going to throw money at it like Wolves did but if we are fortunate enough to be promoted, mid-table next season would constitute success.
Does it not favour us that most of the clubs are up to the eyes in debt ?

I'm sure it's been mentioned but the three teams that went up above us our first year in L1 finished 19th, 21st and 22nd last year and it was actually a spot worse for each if you remove Wigan's deduction.
So far this season, Coventry, Rotherham and Wycombe are 20-22-24 in the table and Rotherham would be 23rd if not for Wednesday's deduction.

But Barnsley and Luton, who both barely survived on the last day of the season, have established themselves this season. Barnsley especially are having a fine season after only staying up due to a last gasp goal and Wigan's deduction.

Guess what I'm getting at is that's a big step up to the Championship and survival must be our immediate goal.

We won't be spending big to get out of that league. If we get up, first season goal has to be not to be in a relegation battle.

Even if we released all our rubbish and spent big, they won't all hit the ground running and gel as a team.

We need to be sustainable as a club, not spending daft money to try and get back into the Prem. If ran correctly, this club can be sustainable and be a top 6 Championship club within a couple of years.

Exactly the points I was going to make. The teams promoted since we’ve been down here (all playing better football than we have this season, and with better players) have found the gap a difficult one to bridge.
Should we get promoted, it might be even more difficult, given we might be putting together an entirely new squad.
I believe there are better times ahead, but patience is required just as much as hope, optimism and wild dreams

In the event we go up I’d be happy with one of the bottom survival places just outside of the relegation zone. No way will we be mid table or higher. Not after what we’ve been through the last 4-5 years or so and how much it has depleted us as a top two tier club. Not given the position we are in. It will take several years of building before we can say we can be a top 10 club given our starting position and state.

Most L1 clubs who get promotion to the Championship never hit the ground running immediately and straight away do that well they finish in the top 10. It’s always a struggle at first till they find their feet and build a strong foundation of a powerful Championship club.

Is it not the case though that they go up and just keep the same team because they are all potless and can't afford new players or higher wages ? I'm not expecting us to flash the cash if we go up, but I think we'll at least be able to increase the wage bill.

We aim for top one.
Re assess after game 1
Re assess after game 2
Re assess after game 3 and so on and so on.....

Nice idea but to offer a bit pf perspective we have just been given a tough game by a club in the league below us. Against who we managed to score a single goal.

Now I am pretty optimistic about SAFCs future but that suggests to me that a lot of work will need to be done just to keep us in the championship should we get there
