If we go up this season we should be aiming for top 6 in championship next season

People go on about the championship now as if it’s this fantastic league where you have to spend hundreds of millions to get out of it but look at Barnsley winning every week now. If they can do it no reason why we can’t if we try and get 5/6 good players in . Maybe 2/3 premiership loans and 2/3 permanent signings
What about the season after next? That premier league is not all its cracked up to be.....Reckon Big Chaz would rag doll those fancy Dan defenders

That isn't the point. It stands to reason that those wanting us to make the play offs won't be happy if we're 16th in the league.

And again, how do you promote the signing of loads of young players and justify our academy? Their approach works for them due to not having an academy, which is the opposite of how we operate.

But it's still mostly shite.
By not buying whole teams of new players. Invest smart, not big. Would you like to see us throw silly money like Ashley did on Joelinton?

No trapping at all. I could make the same argument against you with the Joelinton comment.

You stated you wanted to follow the 'Brentford model'. Brentford got rid of their academy as an integral part of their model...

And then I pointed out that it was re transfers.

Okay. Their transfer policy is largely based around them not having an academy. They couldn't produce or entice the same quality of youngster as their rivals, so they let others nurture them and then looked to sign them when they were a bit older.

Don't aim for anything apart from winning every single game, we keep that mentality and we'll finish at the right end of the table.

We'd need a lot more than that but whatever business we do should be with the intention of going up again.

 Dream on.

What an absurd way of thinking.

To stay in the Championship for any prolonged length of time would be to ultimately fail in the Championship. That fair win percentage would probably have to be quite crap so as not to bother the promotion spots.

Good football? I'm not sure about that. Better than what we have now, but it's still not great. And again, you'd have to be crap to stay down in the division.

Full Houses? In The Championship? Not for very long mara.

Sound financial footing? Questionable - plenty of clubs in bother in that league. Ultimately you need the Premier League payday at some point.

Local Young uns? Talent will be eaten up by the Premier League. No two ways about it.

Win a Cup? 1973 was a long time ago. And so was 1980.
Well it's all about the pace of things . I would be quite prepared to grow through the period I describe until the prem was a matter of course rather than have a prem at all costs attitude

That's from Soccernomics. The author of The Numbers Game made a slightly different argument that teams should replace their weakest player, but research found that those best three players should make up about 70% of your budget, as they're going to have a much bigger impact that anyone else. The five cheapest players in your XI will have very little impact on the outcome of games in general.

Liverpool's current predicament could be a really good example.
Interesting that. It would explain how we have had a good run despite having a Sunday league left back in the team.

Ok, would it make you happier to take FCM as example.
