If Sunderland went up via the play offs.......

I'd love you to be right mate and it would be fantastic to go up with the mindset that we're gonna enjoy the ride whatever happens . Mind you that's not to say we'd definitely struggle with a bit of clever recruitment.

Patterson

XXXXX - XXXXX - Ballard - Cirkin

XXXXX - Neil

Roberts - XXXXX - Clarke

Stewart
Realistically I think we could go into a PL season with the above from the current crop and be somewhat competitive in terms of not going down without a whimper.

We also wouldn't spend a huge amount of money so would probably have to go into it with 6-7 of the current crop as starters with a few additions.

That said, we would be extremely likely to come straight back down, but as has been noted we would be in a much stronger position if we did things sensibly and would have the parachute payments to strengthen us longer term.

Yes, I know that no one thinks this will happen but it is possible mathematically. If it did how many of our current squad could cope in the top flight?
Patto
Ballard
Hume
Neil
Clarke
Rosco
Amad - if willing.
Refusing to comment, not because I don't have the blind hope that we could do it. It's more that I said I thought we'd struggle to finish above 20th after the summer recruitment and thus proving; I know sweet FA.

Patto☑️
Ballard ☑️
Hume 🤔
Neil ❌
Clarke ☑️
Rosco ☑️
Amad - if willing. ☑️

Roberts'd be alright off the bench in fits n spurts, though not as effective.

Michut might be alright, but is it right he's not staying??

Not sure about Alese and Cirkin. I think Cirkin could get there eventually.

Could be a step too far for O'Nien, and VAR might have a field day. Never know mind. He's a surprising lad. I've been warming to him quite a lot this season after probably being one of his biggest critics on here.

Tier 1 (likely to do fine) :
Ballard
Neil
Amad
Clarke

Tier 2 (might do fine):
Stewart
Roberts
Hume
Baath
O'Nien
Paterson
Michut
Cirkin

Tier 3 (bench at best/sold/loaned out):
Embo
Pritchard
Gooch
Evans
Elise
Ekwah
Ba
etc

We'd need 2 CFs, 2 CMs, a CB, an FB and a winger of Tier 1/ 2 standard

I personally think with the current set up we'd be going up far too soon and we would be slaughtered.

I rate Dan Neil and he’s a decent prospect but he’d need to up his game massively not to look out of his depth in the premier league. Hopefully he’ll get there with us one day and look like he belongs but if we somehow managed it this season I’d hope we’d be in a position to drop him in and out of the side and not expect him to be a regular.
This. I'd happily take a payday n get somebody more solid at the minute. The latter half of that statement doesn't really tie with 'the model' though.

We need to complete a seven game winning streak to get there, then win three more games to get promoted (ok maybe draw win win)
Not sure the last time we won ten games in a row - maybe over 100 year ago??
Nah. We only need to win one game. After that, we only need to win one game, then we only need to win one game, before finally having to only win one game. Piece of p*ss!

You stay up you desurve it

Sure. Irrelevant though. There's nothing enjoyable about just surviving every year. And not doing anything else.

There's loads enjoyable about storming the championship.

If we are in the premier league I want us to be aiming for a cup. I don't really care about stopping up as long as we manage getting relegated properly and go on to try and destroy the championship (which I have seen us do before)

That's the spirit

I'm not pessimistic if you ask me, I've actually been very content with this season even when some people were seething at Mowbray.

I think it's been a good first season back, but I'm a bit nervous as I've seen what often happens to teams who win the Championship playoffs in the Premier League.

Saying that I expect us to fight for promotion next season.

I know mate....just think we have. Been handed a massive opportunity in a relatively weak Championship, which will be stronger next season, and we have tried our best to pass it up by not having a striker but we are still there and knocking on the door.
