If Phillips was manager and had made the same start as Parkinson

As You Were

Midfield
Would you want him sacked already or do you think his legend status and the fact he’d never managed before would buy him a bit more time? I never wanted parkinson and can’t see him turning it around but part of me thinks it’s too soon to sack him and he deserves a chance in jan to bring some of his own players in.

No, as I doubt the football would be as turgid with little hope of improving.

We've gone backwards massively under Parky he's shite

Then we'll sack him!

Wake up ffs, Parkinson is shit and has lost 9 games out of 12. Why would you want to give him money? He’s lost the dressing room and the fans 12 games in, there’s only one way this is going.

It depends what he was trying to do. The results have been shite, but believe it or not it's less about the results and more about the way he's attempting to play the game for me. It's bad. It's not working either, but even if he gets this hoofball rubbish working, it'll still be bad.

In the best case scenario with Parkinson, he goes out and buys 5 big lumps in January to play route one football, we manage somehow to put enough of a run together to go up, either by the playoffs or nicking an automatic spot, then what?

Good teams in the Championship do not play Parkinson's game, which is why he's failed every time he's managed there. So we either stick with the man who's given us a miraculous promotion, allow him to rebuild the team to play the turgid shite he advocates to end up lower mid table at best, or we sack him and have to bring in a new manager and buy a whole new team anyway.

Phillips would be getting more leeway because he's a legend and people actually wanted him to manage us, certainly. But hopefully also because we'd be able to look at what was happening on the pitch and say "I can see he's trying to play football", not "this rubbish may be marginally less ineffective when f***ing Charlie Wyke is back fit."

Parkinson is a known quantity. His brand of hoofball doesn’t mesh with the squad at our disposal. Granted, if we buy a few large lumps to place in the squad in January, they would have to come with some technical skill in order to ease the transition to the championship (in the unlikely event this happens this year). Buy both size and skill in one package would most likely come with a cost that the owners will probably not sanction.

Phillips is an unknown quantity in terms of management. What is known is his love of the club and the fans. We all know that if he was here he would give his all for the club. There is a risk that his style of football may not be a perfect match for the squad in its current state. I feel that if we had him at the helm with this January window available for him, he could better strengthen the squad within the current budget constraints than Parkinson could.

What style of play would be the perfect match for the current squad btw? Also I think decent players can be gotten for not very much as others in this league and the one below have them and the way most teams operate they won't be on large or long contracts, recruitment is key and where we have failed and that isn't all down to Ross before him or Parkinson now. I agree with most of what you said but just had to raise these points.

100% this.
Check my post history: I have never advocated sacking a manager. But then I've never joined the Allardyce fan club either, because he is perceived as a hoofball specialist.
I gave Allardyce grudging respect because he achieved the stated aim of survival. However he left a squad with too many mercenaries and that summer the players lined up to come were even worse: I still blame Allardyce as much as Moyes for Dodgy and NDong. For all that, I reckon Allardyce would have probably kept us up again had England not come calling. But my expectation was that one day he would leave and just as with his previous clubs the team he walks away from would be poor.
I am no fan of Allardyce as you can see, but at least he is an intelligent hoofball specialist who has achieved something of note: his Bolton team were competitive back in the day.
When I heard that Parky was in the frame, my gut reaction was "my God, no". Even then, I didn't expect the results to stink as much as his turgid hoofball.
One day Parky will leave; what state will our club be in then?

This is the right answer and only consideration the owners should look at now. They've made a mistake now rectify it even if we won Saturday because he's miles out of his depth it's obvious

Would depend on the style of play, how the squad was responding to his coaching, and whether there were promising signs of some underlying improvements.
I understand wanting Parkinson our but just don’t understand the clamour to get Phillips in, other than he was a great player for us.

It can only be Keaneo. But at this point, there's nothing to lose, and I wouldn't oppose a Super Kev gamble.

With so many players being alike in skill set, the only path forward I can see is a Poyet style of possession football albeit executed in a much more limited fashion. Until we get that much needed pace and strength injected in the squad, we remain too one dimensional.
