didn't play much in his first season, again im not saying don't sign young players, im saying we will have to have time which I feel we don't have with Duncan.

Sign him with another experienced head.

I didn't say that, though. I said starts. And besides, if you add up his whole minutes before Liverpool (4134) by 90, it works out at 45.9. I can split hairs with the best of them mate, especially when literally the only think coming back at me is 'mare' in a variety of styles.

He started 60 odd games not 45, so you are 100% wrong.

I may be wrong, but I think Beckham had played about 5 games for Preston and 3 in the cup before the 'cant win it with kids' season when he scored goal of the season on the way to the title. Is that just about correct?

Wimbledon was season after, Villa humped them 3-1 that season

How many games had Giggs played before he took the league by storm ? Welbeck was decent enough for us in the prem after Preston. There are loads of examples if you look for em. Like i keep saying i have NO idea what Duncan is like, and won't advocate for him baed on a few youtube clibs or twitter links, just don't buy the argument you're making, and based on logic alone, if our scouts who are clearly haggling over price and salaries with other players are willing to make a big bid for a 20 year old, they must really rate him.

Its not a case of him being a bad signing its the fact that signing him alone is seen as enough by certain posters.

Also we were never talking about British based players, we are talking about young foreign players making immediate impacts.

I think the point stands in that if Alfred does sign and makes a significant contribution this season it will be the first time it has ever happened for a player of his experience.

This point alone proves we should be looking for two players rather than one.

When we signed Julio Arca he'd only played thirty odd games in the Argentine league, came here and pretty much hit the ground running, even Fergie commented on him being one of the signings of the season?

He played a season in Argentina, some distance from 19 games in Serie B

All a little older than Duncan but kinkladze, sjolskaer, kolo toure all came from veritable backwaters and made immediate impact for their clubs, could even include mignolet in this.

Not many and Duncan would be a risk but to say it has NEVER happened is stretching it too far.....only in my opinion mind.

All those players had played 100 plus games before coming here, except for Toure.

Toure didn't feature for a good 6 months after his move either.

Sorry like but you are stretching the point mignolet played no higher than the Belgian second division, kinkladze was playing in Georgia, neither at the level of serie B.

Six months is hardly a massive wait for someone to make an impact either, Christ we signed experienced internationals who have done nowt for seasons.

I can only imagine the outcry on here if we were signing a person with a comparable record to sjolskaer prior to him joining man utd and the oh he's played 100 plus games argument wouldn't last long either. Majority of his games were Norwegian third division as well.

I'm in agreement with you that we shouldn't put all our eggs in one basket with Duncan given he is an unknown quantity but like I said I think you are stretching the point to say no ne has ever made such an impact with limited experience.

You learn as you play when you are young, the players you mentioned all had played at least 3 seasons of competitive football developing as players.

Duncan has played half a season in Serie B.

Im a little bit sick of this now as going in circles but the point stands that no foreign young player with as little as 19 appearances has made an immediate impact in England.

Why an immediate impact? As that is what we need, we don't have the time for a player to take 6 months to adjust. Sign him but don't rely on the lad as our only partner for Cabral.
