Agreed, but I think it's rare that they come across well in photos
 
The first time I saw that I was in NEwton Aycliffe of all places.

Didn't have a clue what I was looking at (it didn't look much like that pic) until I read the Northern Echo the next day.

I've seen them many times since from Norway and northern Russia but I've never been able to do them justice with the camera.
 
I thought I was seeing them last night, went out to take a photograph anarl. Was a really green sky. Took another photograph of the usual orange London night sky.

Camera not good enough to do night photos sadly.
 
Far too far south and wrong time of year too. But, there was a really green light in the sky, so just tried to photograph it, but wasn't worth putting on the pc even.

Well, there has been high sun activity just recently.....but agreed it's unlikely to be the aurora

Spotted as far south as Corporation Quay not so long ago.

I've seen em in the cockpit of a plane when I was a kid. Before the post-9/11 days obviously. Stunning.
