Wrote for the Shields Gazette too. Doing a search there was an article in it by him as recent as Oct 25 of last year.

I imagine there to be a huge hole now in the world of north east sport journalism.

Ian kept the flag flying in Shields for SAFC during some dark times.

Don't know what happened but seen a few of his colleagues say that it was sudden, so doesn't sound like he was ill.

My mam died very sudden, painless for the person

f***ing hell, shocked like. Obviously never knew him but read his stuff and I think everybody recognises the name.

Had the best job in the world, being paid to watch and write about Sunderland AFC...
The sad thing is he had packed in the sports reporting to do general stuff to enable himto spend more time with his young family.
