3-2 Burnley (edwards)
2-1 mags (richardson)
2-2 Man Utd
3-1 Spurs (one of the most entertaining ridiculous matches ive seen at the sol)

Man City 5-0
Man City 4-3
Wigan 3-0

Reidys first game in 95-last minute winner by Russell v Sheffield Utd. Massive result because we were heading down to the 3rd. Unbelievable scenes when the ball looped up in the air, seemed to take an age to drop and went into the net.

Sheff. Wed. away when I believe the Keano version of Hey Jude first appeared, on the same day who were that "rock band" at half time who wanted us (and the Wednesday fans) to join in the biggest air guitar world record attempt and they were basically ignored, apart from "who are you" ?

On a few threads people have mentioned that they were at certain SAFC matches over the years that were defining moments for one reason or another.

Southend (A) is mentioned a lot (I was there!) which is important because:

- We saw Riera play.
- It was an abysmal performance that heralded the Keane era.
- Stead scored.

The games in the 73 cup run etc. are going to be up there but I'm looking for the more obscure ones such as Grimsby (A) when the match was abandoned. I think this was in about 1993, I didn't go but my brothers went.

And there was the Crystal Palace (A) match that was postponed when SAFC fans were already there and they were invited in for a cuppa by the Palace staff.

I went to that one

Maine rd when we beat City 1-0 and Phillips broke Clough's scoring in consecutive games record

Watford 8-0 Us. Bloody unbelievable day that was, they just kept coming all game and we kept wilting, it could have been twelve or more. I was in the home end with a mate from down there. I wanted to go to the bar after half time (4-0 I think) but he wouldn't have it, and he had the car.

Mind I am old enough to have seen most of the '73 cup run, so not all bad!

barnsley, got beat 3.2 at roker and ended up going into the relegation play offs, we were 2.0 up when mark proctor missed a penalty. the rest is history

Was just about to post that.

I was also there when we scored all 4 goals in a game and lost 3-1.

I was there at the charlton game, but i left at half-time, before i did something stupid, i did consider confronting howard wilkinson, but decided to leave was the better option !

Wimbledon away 86? FA cup game 1-0 up after 90 mins, we were whistling for the ref to blow his whistle (as you did) and they equalise, was thinking, ahh well we've played ok we'll beat them at our place. Kick of, pass the ball to them and they waltz through and score again

I was there, nowt but a bairn, at my first ever away match, family holiday in London, when we got stuffed 8-0 at West Ham, Geoff Hurst scored 6 of the buggers himself.

Mind, I was also there when, reasonably cronological:-

The lads carried King Charlie on their shoulders to celebrate our first ever promotion 1963/64.

Same season as above when an estimated 100,000 were in and and around Roker Park for the Man Utd cup replay.

Slim Jim Baxter left me breathless in his early days for us.

Defied all the odds and went on that glorious run and only won the FA Cup beating the durty bastard Leeds, who were thought to be the best team in Europe at the time.

Charlie's (Ferguson) Angels, Lord Rowell, Shaun Elliot and Kevin Arlott nearly saved us from relegation. Fuck you Jimmy Hill.

John Hawley scored the best Sunderland goal I have ever seen. Who else ever beat Pat Jennings from 40 yards ffs.

When we all went daft at Wrexham thinking we were promoted.

Benno made Speedie shit his pants.

Marco and Gatesy showed the maggots what for.

I'm kinda losing it now, however:-

That Gordon Armsrong header.

The Reid era.

Kiss ya granny Marcus Stewart.

The god that is Niall Quinn.

See the thing is that although SAFC don't live in the world that my Dad and Granda's knew them in, it's in our blood and SAFC continue to produce defining moments that keep the faith alive. We don't have hangers on like Man U, Liverpool and so on. Our club is ours, it's about nothing more than close to home. They frustrate us but things happen from time to time to bond us.

Sunlun till I die.
