"I was there" SAFC matches

On a few threads people have mentioned that they were at certain SAFC matches over the years that were defining moments for one reason or another.

Southend (A) is mentioned a lot (I was there!) which is important because:

- We saw Riera play.
- It was an abysmal performance that heralded the Keane era.
- Stead scored.

The games in the 73 cup run etc. are going to be up there but I'm looking for the more obscure ones such as Grimsby (A) when the match was abandoned. I think this was in about 1993, I didn't go but my brothers went.

And there was the Crystal Palace (A) match that was postponed when SAFC fans were already there and they were invited in for a cuppa by the Palace staff.

Was at the Southend game.
Barnsley for Buxtons last game on a Friday night.
Grimsby for the 6 minute fiasco.
Derby 6-0 on opening day after a decent pre season spend.

Southend away, Bridges first senior goal and it was that foggy hardly anyone saw it.

Both Southend games mentioned although the foggy one was mainly memorable for its comedy value, especially when the power cut started on the way to the station.
The Reading game will always be THE Reading game.
Millwall away during Reids first full season was way way way more important than the thrashing we gave them at home a bit later. They were top at the time and they hardly touched the ball while we played at half speed. Convinced me Reid was what we'd been waiting for.

I can't recall ever being at an away 'horror' show; we won the last one I went to, Sheff Wed in the last promotion season. But I also can't recall ever being at an amazing against all odds win either

The day I stopped being too bothered when we lost. Early 90s and Southend beat us 4-2. It was cringeworthy, we were slaughtered. I thought stan Collymore was magnificent that day.

Doesn't get much worse than Halloween 2010 mate.
Coventry 5-0 in the cup in 1990 when I spent my entire dole to go ( had a short spell on the dole then)

That was at Roker wasn't it. Collymore was tremendous. For one of his goals Derek Ferguson (I think) actually turned tail and ran away from the fucker

It was at Roker aye.
They became the first visiting team if memory serves to win 4 times in a row at Roker.

I worked with a lad from Southend at the time. He never went to watch em until his dad came back from the match and said weve got our best ever player. He started following em and used to rave about Collymore saying hes gonna play for England, everyone else laughed. One of the WHU lads at work went with him to one match to see Collymore, he came in on monday raving about him anarl.
I went up to Roker the following week raving about him and a couple of weeks later he ripped Bally & SAFC a new arsehole at Roker. Made Bally look a mug a couple of times in the first five mins then skipped round him and chipped the keeper grazing the bar from outside the box. Different class as the cliche of the time was.
Ask Bally about it some time.
