I kmow there are other threads but

First FA cup derby since 1956 when we beat them at St James in the quarter final.

First cup derby since 1979 when we beat them on pens at St James after two legs.

I am 57 and that league cup tie is the full extent of cup football I have known v the mags. I was only 13 so didn't attend either game so this will be the first time I have seen us pay them in a meaningful cup tie. Its a bit of history for almost everyone under 80.

Too young for 1956 but in the Mag stand for 1979 …..god it was good!

I would have to do research but in 1956 I think we lost six one at home to the mags just prior to beating them in the F A Cup. Our new signing Bill Holden I think got a brace. No doubt a poster will keep me right.

I’m afraid your memory is failing you marra.
The 6-1 defeat was much earlier in the season.
