I just don't get this vitriol toward Coleman...

FFS he could have gone anywhere. He had zero to spend in the transfer window and it really looks like the players are actually responding in the last 4 or 5 games. Next season in league one he is exactly the kind of manager we need...a "big" name and a motivator. The players we will have next season (minus the big ego twats who will go, thank fuck) will hopefully respond to someone who has actually played and managed at a level way above League 1. Get behind him.....I can't believe I'm posting this as I'm normally a right miserable twat.
Head. Brick. Wall. Absolutely bang on post.

We were still better v Brentford than the previous games with 5 and the following games. Grayson’s results have nothing to do with Coleman.

It’s the first time they’ve had a run of games with 4 at the back under Coleman and it’s immediately been the best we’ve been all season.

We’ve shown in this run of games that the players are good enough to not be bottom of the championship. 1 win and 2 draws in our last 3 away games.

Too little too late due to the refusal to change a system that has relegated us, and a refusal to play our best player and instead expect Billy Jones to create all our goals.

No surprise to see Cattermole playing better in a system that suits him instead of trying to show horn him into a role he doesn’t have the legs or ability for either.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

What about our general play? Do you not think that’s different to how it was when we were getting beat 3-0 every game and creating nothing at all? Or is that down to the keeper as well?

Not at all, we had a really poor patch and not for a second am I absolving Coleman of blame but the fact is we would have been well out of it in the last month alone if it wasn't for stupid, stupid goals.

Everyone hates the 5-3-2, but when it was introduced it was looking really effective. Then we lost Gibson and quite a few injuries and it got increasingly negative to the point where we were creating nothing and so terrified every attack against us looked like resulting in a goal.

Can fuck off now for me. Absolute bollocks of a manager. Might be alright at international level when bale is as giving it licks, pick a team on his own without that. No ta

Oh aye. They are cheap, shite goals but we are on the front foot now so at least we are getting points from games instead of losing 3-0 every game with the same cheap, shite goals.

We were playing with 9 players in a 532/343. The wing backs didn’t defend (which was clearly visible as Kone and left JCS were always being dragged out of position into the full back positions leaving O’Shea, who can’t run, to cover the width of the box on his own. Cattermole was also expected to be some dynamic box to box destroyer who would cover for the wing backs (who aren’t good enough offensively do anything worthwhile in that role) as well as be an attacking threat up the other end of the pitch. We ended up just having players playing roles they couldn’t, stretched to fuck all owa the place.

He, like so many other Sunderland managers started well and had the usual slump. He's had no help from the owner or the CEO but hasn't helped himself with his constant chopping and changing of formations and personnel. His hands were tied in Jan, but the recruitment (which was always a gamble with £0 to spend) was awful. I don't think anyone could have foreseen just how bad Lee Camp would be. The Watmore and McNair injuries have been unfortunate (the recent weeks have shown what PMc brings to the team) and whilst I think CC should have performed better, he has my backing for the new season. This club and it's problems aren't going to turn around overnight, it's going to take 2-3 years to settle the financial and the playing side of things. If Coleman wants to be here (when so many others don't) then fair play to him

We brought him in to keep us up, it wasn’t that much of a difficult task but he has failed miserably. Not sure why anyone would want him to stay after he has shown he isn’t good enough, we’re below Burton FFS.

Good point well made.

The players he brought in were dire, albeit he got given no money
He doesn’t know his best side or best formation
He continues to play Fletcher over two promising kids, whilst hoping they sign a new contract

I like the man, but patience is wearing thin. The issue is that we will not get anyone better so I hope he stays

I would not be surprised if the terms of the Fletcher deal were he has to play unless injured. Boro are probably paying most if not all of his wages and we probably needed to make some guarantees to get him through the door on that basis. In hindsight, playing the young uns after Grabban went may have been a better option. At the end of the day the mess we are in is all down to money, or more particularly the lack of it. We all wanted a striker in when it became obvious that Grabban was off in the January window and the fact Fletcher was the best we could manage says far more about our financial state than Colemans judgement.

Whatever the reasons, his stock was high and he’d have interested premier league clubs.
Yeah, I know. Which backs up my point we could have attracted someone else. Whatever it was that attracted coleman could have attracted a manager good enough to keep us up.

When we appointed Coleman we weren't scraping the barrel for a manager .

Im sure he spent more than a penny and where is it quoted that Tan didnt speak to him lunatic or not?
What difference does speaking to him make?

Lots of mitigating factors but 451 six games earlier would have probably just been enough to keep us up. Signing a striker and a keeper that weren't shite would have been helpful too. Coleman can't be absolved of responsibility, other managers could, imho, have kept us up. Despite that we have to stick with him, he's just starting to make progress and with the momentum of a takeover( which I think will happen) I think he might end up doing well.

If we sacked Coleman I think we’d really struggle to get anyone decent unless we take a gamble on a relative unknown.

Where’s the attraction of coming to a club that’s stank out two leagues consecutively, no budget, an inability to play at home, a big but decaying half empty stadium....

Until someone else takes control of the club the manager is the last of our problems.

You dont know what difference it makes being able to at least have the opportunity to speak to the man who can release funds - Coleman could well have persuaded Short to part with something?

Coleman knew the score regarding the lack of funds. He didn’t need to speak to Short.

This is my concern as well. The list of candidates would be terrifying, if he left I'd imagine.
That is as good a reason for him to stay as any imo.
