I have a sneeky feeling

We will look back at this moment in years to come as a turning point for the club.

Normally I am pessimistic about SAFC, have been in general since Wembley in 1998  bar the odd short spell, but I just get the feeling this time it might be different and that Short after a few years on the sidelines observing and learning is about to put a successful stamp on the club. Hell he has been successful in everything else he has done and he is a natural winner.

It may all go tits up but for some reason tonight, for the first time in ages, I am genuinely enthusiastic about the future.

why? what happened at 20 past 8 this morning?

I am fully behind paolo, but most probably thought and felt this after o'neill came in. He has a massive job on his hands imo.

I'm a bit worried about next season. If we lose Mig and Sess we're in big trouble. Plus we don't know anything about these new players. People are getting excited about people coming to the club with fancy Italian names. Let's just want and see what happens.

FFS, you couldn't make up some of the shite that's posted on here could you

I don't know. The guy may well be a seriously well connected, very skilled negotiator who knows the ins and outs of football as a business.

I just grew up thinking of agens as scum who are bleeding the game dry and out only for themselves.

:eek::lol:

I just grew up watching the footy mate, all that is left to the media to debate constantly

This time last year we'd signed Carlos Cuellar on a free as Martin O'Neill sat on his arse waiting for someone to sign. A year on we've signed three players with the likelihood of two more and then many more after that. As much as you can't deny MON's past success, he'd lost it. His interviews weren't the same, nor were his goal celebrations. Whether it's for reasons outside of football or not, I don't know but he was never fully committed to SAFC and that made it impossible to succeed here, and he'd have ultimately took us down, no question.

PDC is completely 100% dedicated to succeed here though. Its hard not to feel excited for next year and confident but I genuinely am. We've got Inter Milan's ex-chief scouts and an ex-FIFA agent as our Director of Football, who has hundreds of contacts across Europe and probably a lot worldwide too.

I was never confident for last year because MON bored me with his style of play and his general persona. This year I'm as confident as I've ever been in the close season and I feel PDC can take us on where we want to be and beyond.

I trust Ellis in whatever he chooses to do though.

People are just been cautious. Every year we say the same thing only to end up with egg on our faces.

We should just want and see how it plans out.

We don't do we. Nor do we know much about the credentials about the new Italian geezers we have appointed. How many times have I heard the usual twaddle from members extolling the virtues of their attributes, "he has pace", "he is a good crosser of the ball" and "he will provide good support to x" and how many times have they been proved utterly wrong. Too many times, that's how many times. We have had a long string of signings who have lacked any skill and ability whatsoever. For every Fletcher or Sessegnon we have had a Bramble, McClean or Johnson. So if you want to know why I have had such a downer on the club for so long look at our signings since about 2003.

the fella we've brought in from Inter and formerly of Udinese has a fairly proven track record at what he does. The rest, for me, are unknown quantities.

Yeah fine, but what did you know about Sess & Mig who you're claiming we'll be in dire straits without?

Which username are you, Shields or Gypsy?

Whatever the case, if you think Johnson, an England international and Premier League winner, has no skill or ability whatsoever then I don't believe I could manage a discussion with you.

we need to remember where we were i think.
bob murray was wanted out and never forget he let the club go 'cheap' to the consortium led by niall quinn, none of which were 'football' men and niall was hardly a chairman but together they steadied the club and reached the first aim of keeping the club in the premier league, whether by luck or the grace of god.
Mr Short came along as a man with limited knowledge in the game, initially, he learned from NQ and slowly began to take on more and more leading to NQ being able to return to his own/main interests.
for years we have all seen the same 'philosophy' of bad season = change manager and many have voiced the opinion that there must be something wrong within the club as none of the managerial appointments seemed to make a jot of difference to the clubs fortunes and that we really needed a massive overhaul.
Mr Short is now established as the 'main man' and his knowledge of the game appears to have increased substantially, he has shown himself to be a shrewd businessman that can and will be ruthless when needed and not one to be scared of making quite radical decisions.
i am one of those who thought the club needed a massive overhaul and i firmly believe we are now looking at the culmination of that fabled '5 year plan'.
there are no guarantees in football of course and as already said there is nothing to say that this new style the club is taking on will work, but the one thing that is sure is that we could not, as a club, keep plodding on as we were and i welcome the changes and look forward (with the usual fear of a sunderland supporter) to the new season and beyond.
