Good job Oviedo went. We haven't got a capable left back but we're saving a few quid

At what point do people grasp not being able to afford the wages long term? You'd think he was Roberto f***ing Carlos the way some go on. He (along with Cattermole) did not stand out, and for the best part of 80k a week in this league I'd expect them to have been quite a bit better.

He and Cattermole didn't stand out? What games did you watch last season?:lol: Cattermole got by far the best goal return of his entire career last season and was comfortably our best midfielder, by some distance. They both looked above any other players on the pitch when they played last season.

Here's a question for you. What do you think the difference is between the total sum we will pay Leadbitter over two and a half years and how much we gave Cattermole to leave. How much will we "save" over that period.

Totally agree, both didn't look no better than average first division players..

I like Denver Hume. He's raw granted but there's pace and energy and a willingness to get forward and I'm sure positional awareness and tactical nous can be coached into him.
He turned his head away for the goal again on Saturday . He doesn’t want to head or tackle or compete . Not a lot to like in a defender

well cats was on a premier legaue contract..leads on a champo contract..
leads took a paycut from his contract to come here..
probably a wide divergence..

On the face of it maybe but dig a bit deeper. Two and a half years plus any signing on fee. How much did we save by agreeing to let Cattermole go....half of what he was contractually entitled to? Maybe only a quarter? He certainly didn't leave with nowt. I'd argue that what we pay Leadbitter over his contract will be similar to what we've given Cattermole to leave.

The question is which player would you rather have in the team for the next two years as essentially they play the same role. Personally id have taken Cattermole without a doubt. IF we'd saved a million on the deal then fair enough but it looks like a downgrade to me with minimal savings if any.

4k/week? Nee chance.

I'm making no argument as to the individuals worth here just saying that offloading SOME of Cattermole's wages and replacing them with Leadbitter's isn't really good business. I'd say Grant is probably on at least £8k/week. That's £1m over the contract excluding any signing on fees. Out of the £4m we were obliged to pay Cattermole how much do you think he "left on the table" given the assurances made by his agent.

safc have a wage cap of £6k in this league dont they?
Given that you dont have the figures, its ludicrous to say its not good business, our oners have many faults, but one thing they can do is count. And aguably Dobson is Catts replacement.

So why sign Leadbitter at all then?

He doesn't. My figures are guesses as are his. There's no way Grigg is on the L1 average either.

Yes he should of brought a extra lb in, but getting shot of Oviedo and his mass wage was 100 percent the correct thing to do, I want safc to survive and prosper in the future and we could not do that with players on x amount, when x equals far to much
I totally agree James was a far better defensive option and we should have kept him with Hume as another option. I think Flanagan has thrown him under a bus. All is not lost as we still have time to sign a decent lb.
Oviedo may have been on high wages but he was certainly not bang average at this level. He was clearly a cut above other players. I'm all for getting a new left back but by Saturday we could be 4 games in without a competent LB.
Statistics would decree otherwise, even when fit Ross didn’t fancy him for a large number of games James being the preferred choice.
