Hull have approached Rubin for mvilla

Are we never getting promoted again?

Well the point is if we went down and came straight back up we would probably be OK. But as I suspect you well know, if you don't come up in the first season with the sort of debt we have we would then need to start making difficult decisions, and the worry is if you miss the boat you get stuck down there.

By no means is what I said in ^ guaranteed, but we are much more vulnerable to it than most clubs going down. So while I agree it won't be the 'death' of SAFC, the idea we go down and waltz back up is silly. We would be in a VASTLY worse position upon relegation than Newcastle were, and as we've seen this season, they're hardly walking it.

At least they are trying

We have give up

We were trying when we singed Graham, we were trying when we signed Kyrgiakos, we were trying when we signed Mangane, Cabral, Dossena, Scocco, Roberge etc...

Throwing money around doesn't solve all problems, and it's one of the reasons we're so fucked right now.

From Xmas onwards last year he was very ordinary, what folks rave about on here is beyond me..because he's a French international??
He carried that midfield at the start of the season. A think we can forgive him tailing for a period.

The 5 players there cost 8.5 million mate.

Thats the reason we are in this shit due to ellis and his short term planning and false economy.

And god knows what in wages/payoffs etc. And that's barely the tip of the iceberg from the last few seasons.

But I'm not defending or attacking Short, just responding to the quote that implied because Boro have signed 2 questionable strikers that they're 'trying' and Bain, Short and Moyes are sitting around watching Netflix all month.

A part of the reason why we're fucked now is throwing money around in the wrong places, at the wrong players, at the wrong time, and I think another chunk of January premium, overpaid panic buys isn't necessarily the answer right now.

Kirchoff also took Mvila's position as defensive midfielder, pushing him into an unfamiliar position where he had to play a different game.

Not really true. Kirchhoff didn't have a lot of real responsibility. Had a role where he knitted play and turned up where he liked. Catts and M'villa were a bit further up the pitch but were there mostly to do the donkey work. M'vila still done a helluva lot of defensive work and covering for PvA.

Its also the main reason we stayed up last season after trying in the Jan transfer window and it workinh

By your logic we shud never sign anyone ever again

It'd certainly keep the wage bill down.

I don't think it is at all. It wasn't the original plan. We invested early on and done it relatively poorly. We tried to invest at times since and done it relatively poorly. Because of investing poorly and not having enough of the right people doing the right thing at various levels at the club, we've been chasing our tails for five years or more not really having the finances to compete as we're still paying for previous mistakes.

Other clubs and chairman may have pulled the plug before now and not tried to correct the slide on a yearly basis (not that I'm praising Short here as ultimately he's been to blame).

We signed at one point 3 right backs in one season. Cheap options that cost millions instead of going for 1 decent rb at a decent price.

The three cost about 1 million but wages and other fees turned that 1 million into closer to 10 million.

Which season?

And that's a complete guess on wages btw.

Mathews 1m
Jones free
Manq loan
Rev free
Vergini loan then buy £2.5 mil
Celustka loan
Yedlin loan
Eboue free
Love 500k

9 rb's in 4 years and still we dont have a decent one.

How much wages and signing on/loan fees are in that little lot?

Total false economy.

Mvila was probably the best midfielder we've had here in years and people are saying they aren't bothered we signed him, saying he was average and that. Well that's an absolute load of bollocks and not signing Mvila when we had te chance was a truly shit decision by the club.

The bloke played very well for a lot of the season in a struggling side, aye his form dipped over the winter period ( not uncommon for players from abroad used to a break) but his quality shone through most games.

You mentioned the 2nd and 3rd last games of the season. M'Villa had a prolonged and major dip in form. Perhaps it was to do with the Russian season kicking off earlier than leagues in Western Europe?
Or the fact hed been carrying players like rodwell, gomez and toiveonen for half a season and was totally fucked

He was by far the best midfielder in that side last year, in fact weve had for a long time

People were saying kirchoff was better than him totally ignoring the fact that mvila was practically carrying him through games

Spot on.
Had a couple of good games but in main was pretty average.

Up until Christmas I think he was our best player. Not having his usual winter break played havoc with him. He was still very solid after the new year though. The midfield oh M'Vila/Kirchhoff/Cattermole worked very well and they each complemented each other. Oh what we would give for that midfield now!
