Of course, but they had been a huge club in living memory, certainly late 60’s and early 70’s.

They were a successful club then. However in the late 1950s we were the only club to have never played outside the top flight, a mere 10 years before City were the club you describe.

We broke their average attendance record for the third tier, without the Sheikh we're very similar clubs.

The early 60’s was a watershed with the abolition of the minimum wage. Prior to that Ipswich, Bolton and Burnley had been dominant forces in the decade prior.

Big city teams took prominence from that point on. I would class the 60’s and 70’s as the advent of the modern era of football.

* maximum wage. Long day.

So far. Lost more games than safc
So has every team in the league. You seem to be an advocate of the old system of 2 points per game. It fundamentally rewarded not getting beat as much as going for wins.

Hull have won 10 games. Probably because they are prepared to take risks and commit players up the pitch into scoring positions. The offset is vulnerability to counter attack.

I’m not advocating anything just stating hull have lost more than safc. That is true. If im advocating anything is to hold fire on anointing teams as promoted on the 24th of november of a season?

keane championship season safc were around 18th in November. And I know this is a team nowhere near as that it’s just an example you can’t call it this early

You are absolutely right. This forum has way too much anxiety. Sunderland are reasonably placed.

Hull playing some good football at the moment.

They are currently top of the league & winning away to Ipswich 0-2 who have an excellent home record.

Hull look a huge threat this season for automatics.

Much in the same way Millwall looked to have one sown up in 1995-1996. We then beat them 6-1 and they got relegated after Mick McCarthy left to take the Ireland job.

Its too early to tell. Some teams (like I us I might point out) have played more of the top sides and some have played more of the bottom half sides. They have started very strongly but its not a given they stay there.
There has been bigger. Manchester City and Leeds spring immediately to mind, but if this continues another season, yes, Sunderland will be a case study for fallen giants.

I remember Wolves in the 4th tier mind a few seasons after being in the top flight.

We can argue all day about which is the bigger club, but neither of those pulled in the gates in League One that we did in the first season down. We have still won more than Leeds and Man City drew level with us with their last title win ;)

I would actually say there is a case for Aston Villa being the biggest club ever to 'grace' the third tier in my lifetime.

8 points off the top. Win the game in hand (year right0 and it's still 5 points.

Not sure what is worse, Parky and his performance or the fact there is no talk of him being booted outside of a takeover happening.

They were no bigger than we are now when they were in the third division . Very similar clubs

The bookies think so. But then they have us as second joint favourites 🤔
