How Shiney Row got its name - By Royal appointment

Shiney Row is part of Houghton-le-Spring, a town which was first mentioned during Norman times in the 12th century. The town’s first coal mine opened in 1823, which saw the local area thrive. Shiney Row began life as a small number of houses near one of the pits, and is rumoured to have got its name from a Royal visit, when one of the family was overheard saying ‘what a shiney row of houses’.

I believe it and hope its true.

Shiney Raaaa as Skellatits used to say.

Should rename it Pikey Row. Always lads riding about on a horse and trap. Piebald ponies tethered up all over the place- Gentoo Gypsies.
The amount of mag tops you see is scandalous too- no wonder the place is going down hill.
