How Rich Are We Now?

Short was fairly minted but he was misguided in those he entrusted and generally clueless himself. It put us in League 1. We've continued to make the same mistakes signing characters like Grigg and Danny Graham. We can only pray the new crew have a proper long term plan, our part is to recognise that plan and give the required time and support. This week we've seen a club that's slowly been doing things right in Brentford, lovely new ground, cracking squad and missed out on the perm by a whisker last season.

Please let this be the end of the days of safc recruitment being utterly criminal and unimaginative, signing over the hill fat bastards just looking to get their mits on one last big pay day. Donald appointed a load of his non league cronies and it has really shown, the football and results have been totally unacceptable from 18's to the first team. There's no doubt a lot of work to do, maybe too much for this season but who knows, there's a fighting chance at least. I'm sure people will buy into it if we see decent progress across the club.

I've got a good feeling about this one, I have to admit. The owner has a football family background. He'll have been well versed in what he should do.

Yeah fair comment but Leicester and Southampton still have a fair bit of money behind them. Let's not pretend their paupers because they're not.
Not at all and we shouldn't be either. We won't be city rich but rich enough to hold our own whilst running the club sustainability with long term planning.

exactly, but its also about getting the right people in the right jobs, to make the right decisions, to put the club on the right track for its return to the premier league, but also to make it into a team that is going, to compete at that level once its back, not flounder at the bottom of that division fighting relegation season in season out.

The personal wealth of the owners means absolutely fuck all, man.
Agree totally! there are many multi billionaire owners that spend little of their own money on their clubs. We will have to wait and see what unfolds. I said the same when Donald became our new owner and it took a week or so before I put him in the delboy chancer with no money box.The lies around how much he paid for the club was the red flag for me.

Hopefully rich enough to not go cap in hand to the football league for a handout to survive. Hopefully rich enough to persuade young players to stay with the club until they’re at least old enough to tie their own bootlaces. Hopefully rich enough for the club to not charge an extra £2 for Boxing Day fixtures in the future to cash in. Hopefully rich enough to not increase Papa Johns Pizza Trophy ticket prices by 500% when Newcastle’s bairns turn up to play. Hopefully rich enough to not try and charge supporters for tickets for matches that aren’t being played. Hopefully rich enough to not try and hoodwink supporters about being ‘profitable’ and being in the best financial position of any club in the EFL without any proof. Hopefully rich enough for us as supporters to be able to focus on what’s going on on the pitch and enjoy supporting Sunderland again.

Any half decent manager should be able to get us out of this league with a couple of decent signings and without spending much. If we are then looking to get back in prem our manager will then have to either work a miracle or we will need to spend to try and get us back quickly. Spending doesn’t guarantee you a good side but if it’s spent well is a massive help. It’s about having the right balance of bringing players through the academy and mixing them with good signings. Will be interesting to see exact share split but I feel quite optimistic now the new owner has majority of shares. Personally i think it’s now a case of wait and see how good lee Johnson is.

Loadsa money is great, but we really need some footballing people involved from top to bottom. Experienced folk who know what it takes to kick a club on. Everythings there already but poor planning (or lack of a plan at all) has sent the club backwards.

Hopefully KLD & Co have a blueprint that connects the club from top to bottom, all moving in the same direction.

Quality Coaching staff at all age levels, as well as a very good first team head coach, head of recruitment, deputy head of recruitment, contract negotiation team, chief scout, deputy chief scout, in charge of a top scouting team, an experienced director of football, and chief executive, are all areas that you need to be splashing the cash, get them right and you’ll not need to over spend on wages and transfer fees to achieve your goals.

You also need a style of play and a footballing philosophy for all of the above to work towards.

A couple !!

Keeper and a forward for starters ( and that ain't a dig at Wyke )

Big investment in academy and scouting/ recruitment. Modest investment in signings now, more will be needed if we’re promoted. Before the takeover that couldn’t realistically happen, now it can.
