How old were you when you packed in playing football?

35 for 11 a side. Body just started giving up on me. Probably could have got another year or two if I dropped back to centre half but the recovery time was getting longer and longer and 2 kids meant lots less free time.
40 this year and still playing competitive 5-side . Will continue with that and maybe take up over 40s 11-a-side next year. Will keep going with it as longs as I can. Still love it

Just wondering as the thought terrifies me!

Its a bit scary when its your bread and butter but no different from any other job I guess, just you geg a lot of bonus's with football. You've just got to change and adapt or you end up a has been. And most of us can still kick a ball but maybe just not as good as we could :)

could probs get a 11 side team from those who play on here
or from those that stopped but want to get back to it, i want to get back to it but want y life in order before i start playing again, im 25 and miss being part of a team no matter how shite i was at playing, was always lumped in defence of in Goal and always enjoyed it but my knees ache like fuck after a days graft so id hate to see me after a game

do you think it could be done of people on here would take hell of a lot of organising I miss being part of a team even though I rarely got a game.

i reckon it could be, even if it was just a weekend kickabout just for fun.
even just mustering say 10 people for a 5 a side game and building from there as someone suggested

im an awful player and unfit but miss the craic after not playing for 3or4 years really played few 5 side games at goals and struggled then my so called mate started being a dick and I haven't played since need to find a way back into it.

When I emigrated at 25.

Had to learn to skate, ski, catch a ball wearing a glove…fuck it is hard when you suddenly become the last man picked after years of sneering at them lot.

29 for 11 a side I had to have a "routine" Hernia op and I haven't been the same since.... I still play 5 a side once or twice a week.

44 soon and still playing competitive footbal. Lucky to have an FA ran vets league complete with website (http://full-time.thefa.com/Index.do?league=1004639) and they supply a ref and 2 linesmen every game. It is an over 40's league, but you are allowed 2 players over 35. There are still some very good players who have played at a high standard so the competition is good.

11 a side around 32. Recovery time from injuries was becoming stupid. Last played five a side last year aged 53 but have had to pack in in case of serious injury as I'm self employed. Lad last year broke his ankle which got me thinking.

I played my last competitive 11 a side game at 62. Although we drew 4 - 4 and got promotion I was playing left back and was constantly skinned by their right winger. That and painful hips and knees has caused me to give up playing football. So I got a bike last year and I've done the C2C ride and this year the Coast and Castles ride. Today I also completed a 63 mile sportive ride in Northumberland.

So just keep going and enjoy what you can do and don't regret what you now can't do!
Great post mate
