How old were you when you packed in playing football?

Apparently Celtic nations owner has pulled out and their having some sort of clear out? Heard they were paying players to come down from playing professionally in Scotland last season for a higher wage. Not sure how much of it all is true but iv played at Celtic nation a few times and their crowds are always small so they will struggle without his backing if true. It will be good to see ryhope back next year they were relegated for not meeting ground requirements. Looks likely to happen to Whitehaven again this year

I'll make enquires about whether CN's owner has pulled the plug. They gave out a lot of two year contracts out to some biggish names from the pro game up in Scotland. McNemine and Willie Gibson on decent money. The biggest financial indicator was when Hartlepool Utd had Michael Rae on trial and wanted to sign him but couldn't afford the £10,000 fee that Spennymoor wanted and the wages CN offered after they met the fee!
Pleased for Ryhope returning, and North Shields reaching the First Division.

Still some silly money about though...almost makes me want to get fit and get my right foot of a wand out!

Over 40s league is where it is at.

Ill find out next season!

A couple of years ago in the over 40s league we fielded a forward line with a combined age of 140 years +. (70 and 71 I think they were)

and no I wasn't one of them !

Wow!!

What's the standard like, generally mate?

39.

I've told the story before but basically I started getting a stiff back after football at 27. But after a ibuprofen it was fine next day. This went on until I was 38 when it started getting really bad and my hamstrings etc just getting going.

Had a MRI and it turns out I'd been wearing my lowest disk away for many years. It's now shot to pieces and I have to have cortisone injections in my spine.

Haven't done any exercise for 2 years now. Ruined. Proper f***ing ruined myself

Excellent teams in the premier and there are always 1/ 2/3 good teams in every league. Who you going to be playing for ?

Haven't got that far yet! I'm gonna be out of the country for virtually all of July so when that's out of the way Ill see who wants me...if anyone!

Knew that shoplifting would eventually catch up with me....

Will do mate. Last time I was on trial I was 17. And not for illegal activities!!

Makes me feel like I could still make it!

41, didn't play loads for the last 5 years or so but in the last couple I got injured just about everytime I played.
Took me about 4 months or so to walk without a limp after slipping a disc in September, decided enough was enough.

Late 30's for me...lost me pace and fitness due to age /work/ family commitments and felt I wasn't doing myself justice trying to keep on playing...especially when I found myself hacking kids half my age because I couldn't catch them.
Played northern league and all the local leagues and when I packed in I was proper depressed and now 45 still can't throw the shinnies n boots out.
Spennys got a couple over 40's teams who keep asking me but the oldest bairn plays on a Saturday morning which I wouldn't miss for the world.
Love my life and the way it's turned out...family/businesses /money but I can honestly say that the happiest days of my life were when I was in my prime on the football pitches of the north east.

I have played most of my life juniors .seniors sat/Sunday leagues 5 aside leagues twice a week ...over 35s moved on to over 40s boldon black bull only stopped when was working away too much....offshore still feel i can do it at 56. Played 5aside with me son and his mates all in their early 20s and held me own

I never played much competitive football which was a bit of a regret, saying that I just enjoyed playing whatever the circumstances, you know when the time is right.
A kick to me left calf led to slipping the disc, it was the longest I've been off work for over 25 years, the body just can't take the knocks anymore.
It took me 3 months to recover from taking an elbow in the ribs in the second charity match.
