Yeh, they are like caravan hotdog stands.

Everytime I'm in the NE for longer periods of time I always make sure I put a box together before I go there. In the box I always put things I know I'm going to miss while away that I can't seem to find in the NE, like a couple of 'bottles' of our remoulade. Then when I've been away for a bit I get mam to post me the box and the day it reaches me is a good day indeed.

Would you like me to bring you a 'bottle' when I'm back next ?

Aye, as long as it's just remoulade in the bottle like.
:)

What are you guys like.

It's in two of the lesbian threads on Parsnip.

Anyway, back to curries. Which one is the mildest ? Don't want my head blown off the first time I give it a go.

I lived just off Ocean Road in Shields so, for me, I think that my first 'proper' sitty down curry was about 1981, at 16 but I'd been into takeaways for curry sauce and chips a good few years before that.

For the record, I do know that there were curry houses and takeaways in Shields as early as the mid 50's. Kashmere in Frederick Street has been there since 1956, unless I'm mistaken and I don't think it was the first.

About 2 if my parents are to be believed. Was weaned on daal and pitta bread.

About 14, a boil in the bag special and i had to argue for months to get that as it was foreign food and i wouldn't like it apparently.

Have you read Toast by Nigel Slater? Brilliant bit about boil in the bag in there with a little pot of "parmesan".
