Even if Gus doesn't pick up 9 points from the next 8 games (which I think he probably can) And if We do pick up 9 points from the next 8 games (Crystal Palace(a), Everton(h), Leicester(a), Chelsea(h), Man City(h), Liverpool(a), West Ham(h), Newcastle(a)).
I'd love to know which 2 of those games we'd 'probably' win, along with another 3 draws to gain our 9 points. Unless you think we can get 1 win and 6 draws, losing only twice. Or is it 3 wins? Hmmm.

Some people seem to think we can expect to waltz into the O3 every season and win without trying, or that Man City will just roll over again.

We have 8 points from our 9 games so far, which were arguably easier than the next 8. We'll struggle to get more than 3 or 4 from those.

That happened last weekend after the Southampton capitulation

This is exactly what SAFC needs.
Another change of manager, battle against the drop then overhaul of the squad in the summer...

*sarcasm smiley*

When SHOULD we change then ? Give him a season (maybe two) in the Chumpionship if we go down ?

Just asking

Its the players who should feel the heat and wrath......Bruces Losers....and we all know who they are....remain as the common denominator in the demise of the last 2 managers.....Poyet is heading at break-neck speed toward becoming the third

:lol::lol::lol:

We have signed 23 players in the last 2 summers mate

I didn't say I think we would, I said I think we could. As you say we've picked up 8 from 9 so far, you say from easier fixtures, I say they included Man Utd, Spurs & Arsenal. I reckon Palace, Leicester and West Ham are winnable, and as you say Man City at home and the Mags away are two fixtures we've enjoyed success in the last couple of seasons. So you never know.

I've been a Sunderland fan for too long to expect anything from any game, but I'm not going to write-off the next 8 fixtures after a couple of bad performances.

A couple of bad performances :lol:

Anyway, you did say we probably would get the 9 points, I highlighted it.

For Man Utd, Spurs and Arsenal played, we have Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool to play.
Played QPR and Burnley, Palace and Leicester to play.
Played West Brom, Swansea, Stoke and Soton, and we have to play Mags, Everton and West Ham.

I have no idea how you can look at that lot and think we are probably going to start picking up more points than we did against easier opposition.

We'll not man. We've seen this all before. There are no easy games for us in this division. We're now clearly into the last throws of the Poyet regime and we're into winning 1; drawing 3; losing 3 scenario/combination. We'll hover above and in and out of the relegation places for the rest of the season. We cant defend, the goalie is shot to pieces, the midfield cant hold onto the ball or find a red and white shirt and the attackers cant get a shot on target never mind score. We're completely fucked.

They have been a couple of bad performances. The 7 before that weren't great by any means but they weren't sackable.

Ok, lets dissect the quote that is giving you such trouble;
.... Even if Gus doesn't pick up 9 points from the next 8 games (which I think he probably can)
can
aux.v. Past tense could
1.
a.
Used to indicate physical or mental ability
b. Used to indicate possession of a specified power, right, or privilege
c. Used to indicate possession of a specified capability or skill
2.
a. Used to indicate possibility
or probability
b. Used to indicate that which is permitted, as by conscience or feelings
c. Used to indicate probability or possibility under the specified circumstances

Where as you seem to think I said we 'probably would'. Would used in the form of example 6 below.

would
aux.v. Past tense of will2
1.
Used to express desire or intent
2. Used to express a wish
3. Used after a statement of desire, request, or advice
4. Used to make a polite request
5. Used in the main clause of a conditional statement to express a possibility or likelihood
6. Used to express presumption or expectation
7.
Used to indicate uncertainty
8. Used to express repeated or habitual action in the past

So where you thought I 'expressed presumption or expectation' I actually 'indicated a possibility'.

Nice backtrack. So you think he has the ability to somehow get these points, but for some reason doesn't actually want to?

You're still in cloud cuckoo land if you think we'll in any way, shape or form get 9 points from those matches.

In football miracles happen, but if you rely on them all the time you are going to be fucked.

 I quoted the original text and very concisely explained to you the different between two of the most basic words in the English langue that had, until that point, flummoxed you. How exactly is that backtracking?

When it is 3 points for a win I don't think I'm in 'cloud cuckoo land' to believe it is possible that any Premier League football team could pick up 9 points from any 8 fixtures.

Like I said, highlight the 2 or 3 games you are confident we can win, given our record in the first 9.

I think the the main problem is the Owner. He's happy just to stay in the division (like most of the league). But he's gambling on a team which is not as good as the one that finished last season.

Changing managers is just part of the game now, I don't think Poyet would be too much of a miss if he went tomorrow. Continuity would be nice, but raking in TV money is the main aim this season, as with the past 6 seasons.

We cannot single Poyet out. This is a team game and as far as I am concerned the players, Poyet, key staff and Short are all culpable.

Short may wish to treat everything from a financial standpoint, including fair play rules but if so it would be nice to know. I'm not sure what his aspirations are and therefore, not sure just how far short the team fall behind his expectations?

He's out of his depth. He practically had a breakdown last season and his tactical decisions (especially substitutions) have been abysmal.

The bloke wanted lynching after that cup game against Stoke imo. Never seen anything like it.

Any manager would have trouble with the current set-up.

Can you imagine Pulis putting up with Congerton signing shite for him? He threw his toys out of the pram for similar at Palace.

I think that probably sums up the attitude of all the owners we have had in recent decades. "Just happy to be here" seems to be the message.

Ellis Short is the problem, shambolic the way he is running this club

Exactly.

How many managers and DOFs is this bloke going to get through before he realises there is a strategic problem? He should employ a top, footballing administrator as CEO and leave him to run the club.

Would like to think we'd go out and have a go though. We don't have an identity at all. We just seem to line the box off the ball and pray the other team doesn't score instead of going out to win games.
