How has your life been affected by the decline and fall of SAFC?

I don't want to be melodramatic, but the real impact has been on the quality of the time I spend with my son. Loves football as much as me, he started with a season ticket at the age of 4, loved it, and times like the early days of O'Neill (eg Ji Dong-Won), the derby wins, the Wembley run, the Poyet great escape, were really enjoyable.

He's now 13, still loves football in general, but thanks to Ellis Short's destruction of the club, is totally apathetic about SAFC, and about going to the match, and often bins it. He certainly doesn't want to go to any more away games. I suspect when he goes it is as a bit of a 'favour' to me, and looking ahead, he certainly won't be going to watch us if he goes to University or gets a job or gets a girlfriend or whatever.

It's the lost generation of SAFC fans that is the worst bit of what that cunt Short has done to the club.

If he gets a few pals his own age who support the lads I'm sure he'll be into away games in a few years time

Or at the very least in a few years it'll be bonding time with you getting in the drinks!

Think 13 is a tricky age anyway, my younger brother is that age. Sure he'll come around soon.

Ive lost interest in football cos of us. I cant watch it at all.

This for me. Genuinely couldn't tell you who's winning la liga or anything. Don't listen to podcasts or watch MOTD. Even unfollowed anything football related on twitter

Use to be well into football before we were really shit.

Couple of posts above about the lost generation of fans is spot on. And bodes ill for the future.

SAFC has been in the main a disaster for so long that we have lost a shitload of younger support/allegiance in Co Durham, in the middle/north of the county to the mags and in the south to Boro . Whilst they are both largely shite, they have tended not to be quite as much of a train wreck as we have been. Our ‘brand’ is a disaster.

We've arguably taken a generation from Boro and even the Mags to be honest. Anyone aged 5-20. And you can see them starting to get into games etc... and especially the 15/16 year olds at away games

It's the new generations that we've fucked it with now. Well done Sunderland AFC

When I headed upstairs to my "study" to put the game on the radio yesterday, my wife said to me "don't you come downstairs in a mood if they get beaten". I am sad to say that my response was " I don't expect us to win for a second. We haven't got a cat's chance in hell of winning. Don't worry love, I don't care anymore, we're shit, and there's nothing I can do about it".

And lo! It came to pass as prophesied.

The bairn has given me a new lease of life with SAFC and although i'm a season ticket holder it really is a chore now to go to the home games. I've missed one or two this season through one reason or another, including looking after my 14 year old daughter, when my wife is working on a match day (it cant always be about my lad and the match). The away games, when I go continue to be a class day out, irrespective of the result and Burton for example was one of the best away days for a long while. I think Millwall is my next away day.

Other than that I have complete contempt for the people running our club. I dont even think that they are really football fans. The game and our club has produced a load of hangers on and it'll be interesting too see who is around next season if we go down.

When people ask who I support I just tell them the worst team ever .
My Saturday afternoons are depressing however I still spend ages looking for a live stream or fanny on with that I follow.
I will probably see one more match at the SOL this season.
Looking at April , hopefully by then we will be on a good run.
I live in hope

if you inherited a poor squad and no money to spend, how would You run the club, what moves would you make?

I don't know if it's because the rest of my life is sort of OK at the moment (touch wood) it's making me a bit miserable. I woke up in a shit mood this morning and I must admit it's preying on my mind quite a bit

I'm not sure because I dont know the way the club is run. However it seems abundantly clear that the club has no player recruitment strategy or playing strategy and thats something that should be nailed to the floor. No way should we be tossing millions away on shite and paying them over the odds and having them playing in a culture where they can do what they like and no one seemingly has a scooby how to fix it. Its ridiculous now.

This is a by product of changing managers so much, we have players that arent worth it and to be fair the whole North East over pay for players, Every manager comes in with a different strategy so its hard to set that in stone which in turn effects the culture of the whole club, I dont think Bain can get a transfer fee for many of our players and really needs to bite the bullet and just get rid of them to clear wages, but I dare say even thats quite a task, until we clear the mercs at the club not much will change.

What a good read from the poster

I would probably say im more angry and taking it out on others and i blame ellis short for it, i was never like this a few year ago, do you think i can put a claim in against him?

On a serious note, i wouldnt say it is affecting me personally as there is more to life than football. Health and happiness is more important

It is sad to see that Mr Short is ruining out club and we cant do anything about it, we need someone who has the passion of Quinny in charge.

Can us fans not be the majority share holder at safc, or are we in far too much debt for this to be relaistic?

Short isn't ruining the club the players are....

Well done. I still get depressed, quite a lot.
