How do I stop my son from crying?

Spot on, I can remember just hiding rather than tell my father anything as it'd result in me being told I had to toughen up.
You need to talk to them constantly I think and realise your help moulding them into what they are going to become as an adult.
Mines turned out more or less the way they are now as a result of how they where brought up.

I wouldn't have thought the SMB is the best place to ask about this issue, maybe seeking professional help, would be the best way to go.

Often think that if many questions asked on here aren’t being asked in the best place but most of the replies to them are mostly helpful the others some of them are quite funny , some of them borderline.

I've heard of the autistic spectrum. There was a time when people said "we're all on the spectrum" which I thought was the case, but apparently not.
We're all on the spectrum of life, but to suggest we're all somewhere on the autism spectrum just serves up belittle those who are.
Literally first time I've heard that yesterday and we have friend's who's kid is autistic
It's very commonly used. I don't particularly like the word disorder, especially for young children who struggle with with being different already without worrying that they're faulty.
Very true, there are some OCD things I have which are considered a trait. Not enough traits to be considered ASD though. For example volumes must be a multiplication of 5 for me 😂
OCD/asd are very different for the a diagnosis of the wrong thing can be catastrophic. OCD therapies can be damaging for someone on the autistic spectrum.

Electric shock treatment? Do you want the dial on number one or 5?

Nah with OCD the obsessions are seen as being 'bad' and you try to discourage the obsessions.

With ASD, things what might be misconstrued as 'bad' obsessions are actually highly comforting routines which, if eliminated would cause harm.

I'm not an expert, just a parent. That's my understanding anyway.

I'm a bit of an expert in ASD but not OCD.

I've got some OCD traits. Volume on even numbers. The kitchen lights have to turned off a certain way in the kitchen - drives our lass nuts that one. Turn the bathroom light on and off five times before I go to bed or somebody will die. Just normal things like that.

Only kidding about the bathroom.
OCD is massively misunderstood and involves very difficult and intrusive thoughts not just the typical hand washing or tidying incessantly. We are all neurodiverse, each brain and nervous system being different but that’s not quite the same as neurodivergent which is where there is a neurological reason such as autism or ADHD for differences in processing etc.
We are not all in the autistic spectrum, to suggest we are diminishes the experience of those that are. I think people that say that are almost always trying to be inclusive and are really saying “ no problem, I accept you” but it’s very unpopular with a lot of autistic people who often find it patronising. ( not all though!)

I know someone that has been diagnosed with OCD and is autistic. They consider OCD as much more debilitating and difficult to live with.

Definitely, but that's not my point. I was talking more about misdiagnosis rather than co-morbidities.

It’s not uncommon as you say. That and personality disorder regularly diagnosed before an autistic diagnosis a few years later. Recent coroners report for a young woman emphasised how damaging an incorrect personality disorder diagnosis can be and recommended trusts should review all their patients with a PD diagnosis.
