How can we defeat Covid-19 ?

I was thinking about this as it looks like this thing is not going away.

From what I can see:

1) Covid-19 transmits through surfaces, where (depending on the surface) it can survive from between 24-72 hours
It seems like we need an efficient way to disinfect door handles, cutlery etc, anything people regularly come into contact with. Maybe we can create new jobs for people to manage this?

2) Covid-19 transmits through droplets - coughing etc. Apart from social distancing masks should sort that, we need masks that are comfortable and efficient.

3) airborne transmission (particles) - this one I am not clear on, outdoors they say there is less risk put some experts have doubts, again a good mask should help maybe.

Am I missing anything? I think this thing can be defeated within a year if everybody puts a shift in.

It may well be around for a long time. We can and will heavily suppress the virus with a vaccine, which seems almost a certainty now.

Until then, we control it as we have been. We wear masks, we socially distance and we have local lockdowns when such measures fail due to poor adherence.

Read earlier that only 1 in 5 vermin who are positive are doing proper self isolating.
If true we are screwed.

Would not surprise me if people are not taking it seriously. Nobody sees the end result of passing it on. Every single person who died in a care home was given the virus by someone else, who was given it by someone else etc.

These people simply have no conscience.

I get that, but why not do something about surfaces for example?

Instead of reacting we need to do something pro-active to actually beat this fucker.

Everyone should be using hand sanitiser really. I can’t think of any way of keeping surfaces clean.

Certain types of metal exert an ‘oligodynamic’ effect which has a mildly antimicrobial effect but surely someone can invent a surface that viruses can’t live on

Vaccine notwithstanding, we can’t. We are reliant on everyone doing the right thing and as we’ve seen for any number of reasons ( or excuses ) a large number simply refuse to do it.

Its not quite as clear cut as that though. If you take your argument to its logical conclusion nobody should be leaving the house unless absolutely necessary.

Not necessarily. I do not see that as the end result of my logic. I think people should live as normally as possible, but they should take steps to minimise close contact and to clean their hands.

I want people to go out and socialise, drink, eat, play, relax, enjoy, live etc but if people cannot follow simple guidance on how to do this safely, then it’s little wonder we’re under local restrictions.

If it lasts three days then why not just close all shops and supermarkets for three days, shops are probably the biggest carriers.

OK glad you qualified it. It read like you were reluctant to accept that the virus can only be spread if people are negligent. I do understand that there is a need to practise the basics, as in, keeping distance and regularly washing hands. I think there is also a responsibility on those who are vulnerable to be more cautious. If the NHS documentation on how the virus is transmitted is anything to go by then you have to be pretty lax to catch a sufficient viral load to make you ill. That of course is not a duty of care that can be expected of those living in care homes.
I'd have thought that was pretty obvious by now?

No mate I'm sorry I'm not with you. Are you suggesting that people should only leave their house under the most necessary circumstances?

Not sure about that. How many people spend upwards of 10 minutes in close face to face contact with other individuals in a shop?

Well obviously, if we want to defeat this thing its the only way. What is the problem with that?

Obviously people need to do shopping, exercise, bring kids to school etc. but to defeat this bugger it will take a concentrated effort.
