House alarms & the police.

A regular occurence where you live perhaps?

Perhaps, it was only going off because the wife left the back door open and set the alarm.
****.
The thing is, Pelaw's a working class area so by using the OP's logic surely someone would have rang the poliss?

If only I hadnt been a workshy hippy, I too could have known what it was like to own a home security system. Oh woe is me, life is shit, I'll just sit here and play my guitar to the cat, while it licks pieces of biscuit out of my nonce beard.

 I certainly wouldn't have called anyone after 10 mins like.

I was fitting alarms on the revitalised Meadow Well, approx 17 years ago. I completed one, and went for my dinner, and heard an alarm going off. When I went back after dinner, the alarm had been stolen

"While my guitar gently weeps" (The White Album's shit compared to my stuff)

And still you come back.

Must be awful being you, having nothing better to do with your evenings than stalk strangers on the internet.

He is a married man, educated and has another child on the way. He goes to the matches too. He has a terrible life.

if youd have rang and said you heard breaking glass next door then the alarm going off your call would have been created high priority and they would have been there pretty quickly

no way can the polis respond to every house alarm going off

Last week next doors house alarm was going on and off for 2 whole days,(he was away) the police came twice and did fuck all, eventually they got in touch with the fellas father and he went round to turn it off, he knocked on our door asking if we knew the code to turn it back on? which we never, said he was ashamed of going in the house and his son had gone right downhill, said the house was like a shithouse and that he needs to get rid of his dog

Its nightmare mate, it's so hard to actually stalk someone on a thread they started but I've managed it here.

Still, it beats wasting police time on trivial non events, keep it up and you'll be the boy that cried wolf, next time someone holds a machete to your throat they might not bother coming out. Did you expect a swat team and helicopter?

there is a 24hr number on the council website for stuff like this, its shared with newcastle council who will 'send the man out' 24/7 but sunderland are only mon-fri. this gadgy then makes an attempt to contact the owner of if needs must, break in and nack the alarm.

Had to use it once and they managed to track the owner down really quick and get it sorted like.

A house alarm just started going off in our street 5-10 minutes ago.

After a couple of minutes of it blaring away, I thought I'd do the good neighboury thing and call the police non-emergency line to report it.

Police switchboard person asked me if I'd seen anyone breaking in, running away, broken glass or anything - which I hadn't, because I hadn't moved from my PC chair.

She goes on to tell me that they won't bother sending anyone to check it out if there's been no witnessing of an actual crime in progress, that even if there was a crime in progress the police couldn't turn the alarm off, and that most house alarms switch themselves off after about 20 minutes.

Apparently if it keeps going off continuously for a few days the environmental health people can get involved.

Useful!

Never read the whole thread, but this reminds me of the time i returned home one day and the neighbour said "your burglar alarm has been going off, and while it was 2 police officers strolled down the other side of the road, didnt look or even cross over the fcukin road", the bone idle lazy *****!!

There's one in my street been going off for 5 minutes. It has 15 minutes to stop before I phone the Feds.

I bet you it doesnt alert the police. I bet it alerts a 24hour manned alarm receiving centre who may then notify the police if they cant get a satisfactory response from you. The police have better things to do than come out every time you set your alarm off.

exactly

burglar alarms are merely a deterrent to any piece of shite who may break in. obviously theres the chance that someone will check it and ring the poliss and therefore the shite wont hang around
