House alarms & the police.

What happened to a bit of community spirit?

F*ck knows. The police seriously don't have the resources (and neither should they) to follow up and investigate every house alarm going off. Especially when the caller on his words couldn't be arsed to have a look

No, this isn't abuse  "Get off your arse and have a look yourself"

However again you instantly started calling everyone thick

If an alarm is going off, go and have a look out the window man. Don't call the police after 10 minutes because you couldn't be arsed

No, I asked you(not everyone) if you were actually that thick or if you were taking the piss... as honest a question as your posts were innocent.

And it's hardly "instantly" when my seemingly innocuous post spawned 2 serious replies, a few jokey ones, and a boatload of arseholes queing up to have a crack, is it?

I knaa, daft isn't it?

I thought I was doing whoever's alarm it was (plus anyone that had to be up for work this morning that lives within earshot) a favour and was genuinely surprised that the police don't investigate burglar alarms, mention it on this community and all the neanderthals come crawling out of their caves to throw stones.

Like I said, this is a nice quiet suburban area in the midlands, not a crime-infested neighbourhood in central London.

The police round here actually have nowt better to do.

The point of an alarm is to draw attention to whatevers going on so a burglar will possibly panic and run off and so any neighbours will be alerted to the property and can have a quick look and see if anythings wrong. If anything is wrong then they can call the police.

It's f***ing stupid to think any burglar alarm going off should have the police calling round, alarms go off all the time without there being anything wrong.

mine started going off in the middle of the night, I'd bomb down stairs but couldn't find a reson as to why then found a spiders web near one of the infra-red sensors once I'd removed that no more problems:-D

A house alarm just started going off in our street 5-10 minutes ago.

After a couple of minutes of it blaring away, I thought I'd do the good neighboury thing and call the police non-emergency line to report it.

Police switchboard person asked me if I'd seen anyone breaking in, running away, broken glass or anything - which I hadn't, because I hadn't moved from my PC chair.

She goes on to tell me that they won't bother sending anyone to check it out if there's been no witnessing of an actual crime in progress, that even if there was a crime in progress the police couldn't turn the alarm off, and that most house alarms switch themselves off after about 20 minutes.

Apparently if it keeps going off continuously for a few days the environmental health people can get involved.

Useful!
Surely this is a wind up

So now we're neanderthals as well as thick

I don't think Sheps was agreeing with your 'stance' by the way...

Honestly Fyl, you were an alright lad when I met you, but on here you must surely be on a wind up, surely....

There's an interesting metaphysical existentialism to all this like.

People go out of their way to religiously set their burglar alarm, which when it actually goes off is ignored by all and sundry as an everyday occurance. Therefore, is it negating its own existence by going off at all?

I think this thread goes to show that it really doesn't matter what topic I post about or how innoccuous I think it is, my entourage of arseholes will all come crawling out of the woodwork.

Bongo to appear in the next 10 posts to complete the full house?

Now we're arseholes

You post, I reply. Sometimes I agree with you, sometimes I don't. It's a message board don't get so worked up by it.

I also mention on virtually every thread about how you were actually a canny lad in 'real life'.

You're the one who throws about the abuse like confetti.

Bongo doesn't really matter though does he?
