Hotels in Singapore

Copthorne Kings is close to Chinatown MRT and you can walk over the bridges into Clarke Quay on a night. It’s also nipping clean and reasonably priced. You also walk through hawker centres in Chinatown and can get big bottle of Tiger for a couple of quid which saves a packet and just drink with the locals. They have a free (I think) shuttle to various places too. I was there in Feb and would go back tomorrow.

I used to live right next to this and it is a cracking location - Clarke Quay and Boat Quay aren't far and Great Wall City is pretty close. As others have said Singapore is tiny and the public transport is good so location is less of an issue (I am there next month staying in Buona Vista (sp?) area which used to be fairly sleepy but now is a busy area)

I have done this )Novotel) and the Holiday Inn orchard city centre.
Both clean and tidy and if your day is galivanting around Singapore all you need is a decent room and a bar for swift half before shooting out for dinner.
Aye definitely. We went there on our honeymoon and let them know in advance to see if they could upgrade us for free, they did and made us feel like royalty was absolutely superb.

Singapore in 1981 and this year - perfect stopover place for a for a day or two. Both times I found it it a little sterile. Not the worst sin for a place though.

Was in Hong Kong in 1983 about 14 months before this . Spent about three weeks there and really liked it. Don't know what it is like now but am aware of this:
China is courting trouble in Hong Kong
Honkers was always the place for single guys, even today, your right Singapore didn't measure up compared to HK,wanchai.lockhart road,pussycats,neppies,big-apple on a Saturday and sunday etc, great times,Singapore had four floors of whores orchard tower.

Apart from the infinity swimming pool which looks good, you are better off looking at Marina Bay Sands by staying elsewhere and having MBA as your "iconic" view.

( depending on why you are visiting Singapore though, tourist or business)

It’s got a casino though ;)

Anywhere near a MRT station and your sorted. Ive stayed in Holiday Inn Atrium & park hotel alexandra. Both really good.

Make sure you head to china town, food is good and you get big bottles of tiger for around £4.

What is Singapore like for prices of electricals - maybe tablets or a new phone - is there a saving to be had ?

Just come back and no...pound is very low against SGD also.

Got this sorted and booked now. Decent hotel - 4* (allegedly) close to local shops and the MTA station for getting around - got a BA package for 7 nights.

Which hotel?

Not really these days, I remember in 1998 i save around £300 on a top end Acer laptop, these days the savings aren't that much in relation to the UK. Living in somewhere live Vietnam or Cambodia, you can make savings on stuff like iPhones, due to the tax they get hit with.
