I love colonial architecture, been to some great hotels across Asia in this style, favourite is the Eastern Oriental in Penang

Raffles has been ridiculously commercialised but a lot of them seem reasonably authentic, still love it there though, taste of the past

The Intercontinental is very good - modern hotel in colonial style.

Avoid the Riverview Hotel. Google 'John Martin Scripps' to see why.

Crown Plaza at the airport is good. Great (cheap) foodcourts in the terminals too. Only 10-15 mins on the tube from the centre.

It has like. I had a Singapore sling in Raffels when I was there in 09. Can't remember exactly how much it was, but it was easily over £50 for a round of four people. You only live once I suppose.

Stay in the Peninsular* and ask for a view of the Bay. We stayed on the 17th floor and the view from the room (and the bathroom) was of the new Marina Bay Buildings. Wasn't even too expensive.Right by the underground/MRT so easy to get to Little India, Marina Bay, Little China etc

Close to Raffles and the touristy bits.

The drink is expensive in Singapore.
Last time I looked, a Singapore Sling in Raffles cost over £17.
I paid £12 for a pint of lager in a hotel bar, 1992.
If you want food, try the hawker centres, where food is tasty, filling, and fairly cheap.

Last time it was in a different bar to some refurbishment going on. Big billiard tables as you walked in.

Still very "British colonial" though, loads of class

I always thought that bar was quite quirky for it's time. Yeah I had that vibe as well about the Britishness.
