Actually, beers with lots of hop aroma are best served in cans as there is apparently less hop fade than in bottles. That's why so many American style IPAs are now coming in cans.

Yet dissolved O2 levels are FAR higher and a lot of reputable breweries have stated its just not possible to make good beer in cans.

Really? Everything I've read suggests that modern cans are better at keeping beer fresh for longer than bottles - no light and less likely to keep oxygen out. And from a personal POV, the aroma from cans of Punk IPA and Dead Pony Club definitely appears stronger than from the bottled version.

"Cans are air tight and hermetically sealed, preventing oxygen from damaging the beer. Over time, oxygen can leach into bottled beer under the cap, especially with improperly sealed caps or twist-off caps. " http://www.taptrail.com/the-many-benefits-of-canned-craft-beer/

"To everyone's delight, canning is also better for a beer's quality, according to Welz.
Cans don't let light in, plain and simple. "Light is destructive to the organic compound in beer that make the flavors everyone is so crazy about," he said.
Welz also suspects that cans, with a "double-crimped" seal, are better than bottles at preventing air from getting in - air being one of the main enemies of a delicious brew."

"With zero light, less oxygen and environmental benefits canning was an easy decision,"

This is what I was referring to

Its about the air that gets in during the canning process compared to bottling. Factor of 10 better for bottle IIRC
