Hong Kong

Steeeeeeed

Midfield
Of to Hong Kong next week for around 5 nights.

Got a few things planned when we are there: Victoria peak, see the big Buddha, Macau and a few hikes.

Any particularly recommendations for other things to do or places to eat / drink?

It can be cold this time of year. Nivver even occurred to us it would be.
I was the only one walking round the peak in shirtsleeves a few days before Xmas when we went up there. Bloody freezing. Get the ordinary council service bus down from the peak as the views are different from the ski lift type thing. Plus there’s screens on the buses showing the PL highlights.
Only go to the pet market if you’re ruff n tuff.

Was there last month mate, great town, for you I would suggest Petticoat Lane in the Central district.

Near Arbuthnot Road if I recollect correctly, excellent beers Singha great shows, good local food.

Definitely watch the light show from the Kowloon side of Victoria Harbour

If there's a few of you, try Little Sheep Mongolian restaurant in Mong Kok after strolling through the market.

Lots of real street eating places have the menus only in Chinese but if you grab a studenty looking type they will usually translate for you and steer you away from the more dodgy animal body parts. Definitely worth it for the craic.

And not hungry? Is it really a pet market or is it a food market dressed up as a pet one?

Cheers for all the suggestions so far

Dont bother with Macau

Do go to both Lantau and Lamma islands.

And do watch the light show from the Kowloon side.

Aye we’ve planned some time on Lamma islands.

Any reason not to bother with Macau?

Yeah we’re looking forward to the street food. Downloaded google translate so can take pictures of menus which will translate so hopefully that’ll help

Unless you like gambling / casinos there's really nothing to it, except to say you've been and how it's much more Portuguese than Asian. I love Hong Kong and honestly there's plenty better things to see/do there.
