Hong Kong security law - now passed

China need to be careful like. Nowhere near as powerful as they think they are. They’d end up back in the Stone Age if most of the world stopped buying their shite tat.
People stopped buying their tatt after the last financial crisis, so the Chinese government used state funds to basically prop up their manufacturing base and buy whole infrastructure projects around the world.

particularly the developing in the developing world.

They own shite loads of U.K. interests such as Northumbrian water.

i predict fuck all will happen in the west and they will be allowed to continue to do what the fuck they want although they are causing an arms race in the region.

the Aussies are spending big on long range missiles. Think they are doubling their military spending as they are concerned about china’s continued aggressive approach to countries in the region.

Isn't Northumbrian Water owned by Li Ka Shing's family?

Amazing how this thread seems to portray China as the aggressor, when the entire existence of Hong Kong is a product of British Aggression. We are not the saviours, we are not the righteous ones.

The arrogance in assuming they have no right to say in what is in effect their own country, and that somehow this equates to tyranny?

The idea that we have some kind of moral mission to "deal with China" is a joke they will no longer accept. Who do we think we are?

And it's funny because many of the people calling it "tyranny" are also outraged by violent protests in the UK and all in favour of tougher policing and sentences.

Why not ask the citizens of Hong Kong?

I think you'll find that they would far rather go back to being a British colony.....

They aren't stupid, they are poking around disputed areas like the Indian border etc because they know the West wont be able to form any sort of cohesive plan or opposition with Trump in the Whitehouse.

What's your stance on it then?

Amazing that a totalitarian, human rights abusing, dictatorship is seen as the aggressor when they try to oppress a previously semi-autonomous state? Had a taste of freedom and democracy from being part of the Empire, and don't want to give it up.

I'm over there every year or two and even just on the trip from the airport to Discovery Bay, the creeping Chinese influence is noticable. Any HK resident I've spoken was always afraid of Chinese rule. This day is the one that most feared. Even the "Chinese" folk we spoke to over on Kowloon side of the water used to joke with us when asked what they though of China taking over from the Brits, "cannot say, ears everywhere!"
