Honeyman after match interview

Honeyman looked like he might turn out decent 3 or 4 years ago but he's regressed I'd be inclined to give some younger lads like Diamond, Embleton or Kimpioka a chance. Coleman obviously rates him, I don't. If he stays in the team I hope he plays well and helps get us out of trouble.

I’m afraid despite our cataclysmic decline into the abyss it is still alluding many of the gamified Champ Manager fans amongst our ranks that we are now without alternatives. Players such as Honeyman - the so called 100%ers - are the absolute baseline of where the club is realistically at and is the foundation we should be building on.

The SMB is locked into this perpetual, moronic cycle; ‘he’s gash’ ‘shouldn’t be anywhere near the team’ ‘covering every blade of grass isn’t good enough’.

SHOW ME THE ALTERNATIVE.

Lord, everyday you come on here it is fuelled by abject negativity that fans think they’ve earned as victims of our sinking ship. FUCK
THAT. We’re not victims, we play an active role in the club and whilst we may not be able to influence what happens on the pitch we are certainly responsible for the mood around.

We are were we are. Griping and moaning about some fantastical alternative that we don’t have is beginning to get embarrassing. If CC puts out a team that is 100% the best team we can offer, driven by genuine, hungry 100%ers - back them or fuck off. You’re either part of the cure or the disease and at this moment in time - with this non constructive negativity IMHO - you cease to be fans. The rotten core.

This should be stickied.

The SMB would have Messi out after a month because he didn't look like he cared after we conceded the third goal. Everyone is either amazing or terrible, no in-betweens and if someone praises a player, or says anything positive, someone HAS to get the boot in and say 'not good enough' like they would recognise a good player when they saw one.

Football at every level except Man City's is about turning 'average' players into role players who together are better than the sum of their parts. Simpson, Huth, Morgan, Fuchs, Okazaki etc should have been nowhere near a premier league title, but they managed it despite both Huth and Morgan having the pace of Douglas Bader on Temazepan.

You can't just wave a magic wand and get better players, but even if you could, many teams pay tens of millions for players who don't work out (including us). We have to stop this 'he's shite' stuff because one day we're going to get promoted, and loads of those type of players are going to contribute in big ways. We always look to move on from players because they're limited or we think we can do better, but we're a prime example of being careful what you wish for.

The lad is the type of player who will always give 100%. If say he puts in 80% he would look very very poor indeed. Good players who have the skill and mental capacity can run at 80% and still look very good.

There lies the difference with Honeyman, still hope he keeps learning but there must be alternatives surely.

We either get good players with shit attitude, or bang average/shit players with great attitudes. Why can't we have good players with good attitudes for once.

I think i recognise a good player when i see one and i dont think Honeyman is a good one. If that opinion makes me stupid i can live with it. Why are people getting so vexed about some posters not rating Honeyman ? Its hardly a controversial opinion.

Honeyman should never get in the team ahead of McGeady. They are on different levels ability wise, Coleman has to recognise this. Honeyman should only ever be an option to bring off the bench for the last 20 minutes if some energy is needed.

I'm sick of players who are 100 % ers

I want least three players in that midfeild who are skilful
I'm not sure how anyone can get sick of 100% ers in our squad, they are very thin on the ground.
Hopefully, they will begin putting it 100% in very soon... we'll see.

Looks like he thinks the opposite way.

And 80% of his passes go directly to an opposing defender.

As a young lad, I expect him to be inconsistent, but it's a rare event when he has a good day.
The passes thing can be said for 80% of the squad in most games.

Because they all say that he’s shit but also point out that other players are shitter but don’t seem to pile into them.
The lads no world beater but he’s always moving, he’s always looking for the ball.
I’d say the senior players this season are more of a reason for us to be where we are.
Should he be starting for us, in an ideal world no, but we as a club are fucked and he’s one of the best we have. So we need to get behind these lads who give their all and face up to reality of where we are as a club now.

We do get behind them at the match but on a Sunderland AFC message board in a thread about George Honeyman there's absolutely nothing wrong with people saying they think he's shit.

The fact we are at the bottom of the Championship has nowt to do with the likes of Honeyman and Co but the fact that the club/owner have fucked it up, plus we are not going to sign better players so get used to it..

Well it does when he's not good enough. Unfortunately we've struggled to get other CMs on the pitch. Never got Gibson Ndong and Cattermole together. Williams got injured and Rodwell doesn't want to play.

It's like the first goal yesterday for them. It's not Honeymans fault that we conceded but he was the one who lost the ball poorly. Then Jones (whos shite) commits the foul and Flint runs off Browning and O'Shea (who aren't good enough)

So because he gets picked ahead of ex premier league players on twice the wages ee's on its his fault..give ower man..

But you can do that with every single player we have. He’s not the shittest player we have in midfield but yet he gets the most abuse (apart from Rodwell).

Certainly has done but I expect that to change now. No way could he not have acknowledged the difference in quality yesterday.
Maybe he's carrying a knock or he doesn't think he can play a full game. He might just think when the opposition are becoming tired, McGeady can inject something else.

He takes responsibly because he's on the pitch yes. I know it's not his fault he's not good enough and is playing as like I say we've had so many issues getting central players on the pitch.

When people talk about Honeyman doing well it's always that he's ran about a lot. It's not because of his quality on the ball unfortunately

Had a torrid time yesterday, exacerbated by his poor final ball. He is, however, all energy and probably ahead of other potential youngsters in that respect.
