Honest opinions of Sinclair ?

To be fair, we could play Steve Cram up front for us and he would never stop running either

True, he has scored one, and in the other 8 games he has carried the same goal threat as our goalie. Has he even had an on target shot saved in the other 8 games, as I cannot think of one?
Well Steve Cram might not stop running but I'm not sure he would be any good because he'd have to have a football at his feet. FFS, give Sinclair credit, ok, he hasn't scored as much as he might but he is a good outlet and given a decent run in the team, he will prove you wrong.

Reeto- we will revisit this thread in May.

Just because he is wearing a Sunderland shirt doesn’t mean he will be any good; we have a reputation of signing absolute shite after all

From what I have seen of him he is piss poor and offers very little, and as a forward I expect to see him scoring goals, having lots
Of near misses, and settin up his team mates with goal scoring opportunities, and I haven’t seen this with the exception of a solitary goal, putting him level with Honeyman as of today.

I hope he comes good too, but I cannot see it

Disagree, lads played a handful of games in his career ffs.
There's a reason for that! It's obvious he hasn't got what it takes. Liverpool got shot of him and So did Watford. He's struggling in division one. It's not the quality of the balls to him that's the problem he can't judge the flight of the ball, he can't control the ball to his feet and hold it up. He's ineffective. When Maja came on in his place we created more.

I think we might only have him on loan until January. I have seen enough to think that he has a lot more to offer than you give him credit for but we shall see. The lad needs to be given a fair chance and a decent run of games though. We shall see. Opinions seem to be greatly divided about him throughout our fanbase.

Think people need to concentrate on the quality of the balls played to him which in general are shocking.
We are 3 points off the top of the league, with a game in hand, and our wide players have got about 6 or 7 assists and 3 or 4 goals each. We've scored 30 goals in 15 games, and our other CF, a languid 19 year old, has scored 9 in 12. If Sinclair isn't a goal threat in that side, then he isn't a goal threat.

Maja has 9 goals and has barely broken into a jog this season; he rarely wins headers, and doesn't really know how to protect the ball and hold it under physical duress (yet). However, Maja can actually control a football properly, is intelligent, has some skill, takes up good positions, and puts the ball in the net. Watching Sinclair at times, feels like watching a Poundland Altidore - he works hard, makes a lot of runs, and occasionally does something well. But most of the time he runs down blind alleys, miscontrolls the ball, makes the wrong decision or loses possession.

I think he's playing in the wrong position. His effort is laudable and he is plenty quick enough and skilful enough. He is probably best suited to playing wider / attacking midfield, but, he's not going to get a game ahead of Maguire or Gooch, at the minute. With Watmore ever closer to getting a game, his opportunities may become limited. I like Maja, and even Kimpioka, more in the central striker role.

Haven’t read this thread or the OP.

The lad has worked unbelievably hard for the side and had next to nee chance created for him. Would like to see him playing off a Wyke type centre forward.

Offers a bit more than Maja in terms of all-round play. Strong, quick, great workrate, decent on the ball.

But Maja offers goals, which are priceless.

Decent pairing in all honesty.

I like him.

There is a reason he's dropped down to this level, this season is probably the make or break for his career.

Put simply, he needs to hit the back of the net a lot more.

Sinclair has done little to impress me so far.

Yes it’s still early days but I see a fit Maja in front of Sinclair every week, probably Wyke too.

The 3 midfielders are almost undropable at the minute, if all are fit, with Power, McGeady and O’Nien to call upon.

He certainly has to try and take his opportunities when they arise, as he may not get another chance with players coming back....Watmore too!

Just don't rate him at all can't wait for big Charlie to be fit & firing on all cylinders

He's a lad with very little 1st team experience. He's barely played men's football.
He seems to have the basics sorted in that he works hard and has a good attitude . Hopefully with games he can improve

Wins zero in the air (often doesn't even jump). Can't keep hold of the ball. Can't go past his man.

There is no happier clapper than me but all he does is provide an annoyance to the opposition defence.
Judging from what you've just described, I would say he is anything but an annoyance to defenders. More like a defenders dream opponent!

We've hardly seen enough of the lad to make accurate judgements. Plenty who said McLaughlin was rubbish are now prollyz waxing lyrical about him. It takes a bit of time to settle in sometimes. I think Sinclair has potential. I also trust Ross's judgement.
I seem to remember Flanagan getting the same treatment, too, marra, when he first started making appearances.

Must admit he's flattered to deceive so far he doesn't seem to have much about him he isn't particularly quick he isn't a goalscorer and his all round contribution isn't great

For someone who was very highly rated at Liverpool I really can't see a top player in him

I also don't think he will make a premier League player
Possibly something do do with Liverpool not using him as a target man for route 1 football, but playing the ball into his feet! Just saying.

Opinions seem to be greatly divided about him throughout our fanbase.
He wouldn't be the only player that comment would apply to on here, tho marra, by a long way!

He looks out of position as a lone striker to me. Very poor in the air and doesn't hold up too well either and certainly not the quickest. Looks promising running at players

This all day long.

His job yesterday was to act as a lone striker, hold up the ball and bring others into play. On that basis, he completely failed to do his job.

It’s all well and good running your balls off, but if you fail to win a header or find a teammate with a pass virtually all game, you’re not a very good player imo.

He had a header well saved in th the first 5 minutes yesterday.
I didn’t think he played the target man role too well yesterday but that isn’t his best position in fairness. Couldn’t fault the effort and movement tbh. Seen a lot worse.
