Homebrewing - Part 2

Is that Irish stout coopers kit? I've got one of them on the way tomorrow with some dark DME. Just about out of home brew, so a quick conditioner would be great

It sure is mate. Made with extra dark DME iirc. Was drinkable fairly early, but it is worth leaving it imo.

Can anyone recommend a decent lager kit? What are them cheap Wilko ones like?

I've only ever done the Coopers Cerveza which is nice imo. The Coopers Pilsner is meant to be very nice, if not better. There a few on here have done the Wilkos ones and i'm sure will be along soon to give an opinion.

Wilkos Cerveza is great. I've gone through 20 litres in the last week

Putting another one down today

You need to speak to salad dodger and get the name of his therapist. ;)

How many of you lot don't use the yeasts that come with the kits? Just been having a bit read up on the different yeasts, and it seems they make a hell of a difference to the charachteristics of the brew they're in!

Some info here if anyone is interested.

I got a wyeast for my lager, £4 or £5 I think, rather than the £1 or so I'd usually spend. If using kits I've always gone with the one they include though.

I'm not sure if kits come with something appropriate for the brew or just some bog standard yeast that'll work for anything. Youngs Ale yeast must be a bit of a make-do at 99p, maybe that's what you get in a cheap kit.
Thinking about it I'm not sure if I did get wyeast for the lager, that's one of those slap-pack things and the wyeast is for the best bitter. Only got one though and I'll be doing two batches of best so I might find out the difference.

2 minutes after I typed that the postie proved me wrong again. Just delivered the wyeast slap-pack for the bitter, it's the size of an A5 book! All set for brewing bitter x2 and Tiger Lager, as soon as someone else wants to look after the bairn.

Just bottled wilko strawberry rose. didn't have a taste but will see how it goes down soon. This is getting very addictive. i currently have 1 wilko Chardonnay, 1 wilko light bodied rose, and 1 Blueberry TC all fermenting, Cant wait for the wine to be finished to get more TC on the go and in January with my student loan im going to invest in a couple of 25L FV and save between now and then a canny few 500ml bottles.

The way i see it is, i would probably spend £200 going out drinking and buying booze, not going to spend that much on home brewing. Plus the books can be taken out of the library. and most of the work is on the computer so internet access is available 80% of the time while working. may as well spend the money on something useful :)

I will get the bottles from the boozer probably because thinking about it i am not sure i will have nearly 100 bottles beer/cider that will be 500ml.
